CM Punk Pins Edge and Tries to Cash in Briefcase

chipper smithMay 1, 2009

CM Punk pinned the World Heavyweight champ tonight on Smackdown and tried to cash in his Money in the Bank briefcase in the second round of the match.

It all started at the beginning of the show when Chris Jericho came to the ring whining as usual and said he would be the winner of a fatal four way elimination match scheduled for tonight.

Edge came down to the ring and the two exchanged words. They were interrupted by CM Punk. Punk challenged Edge to a match and said that while Edge was sleeping from the GTS, he would cash in his briefcase.

Punk was true to his word and put Edge to sleep and when he tried to cash in his briefcase, the Samoan Bulldozer came out of nowhere and plowed over Punk.

When finished, he left the ring only for Jeff Hardy, who had become the Number one contender for Edge's belt at Judgment Day, winning a fatal four elimination match that took place earlier in the evening, to come out and attacked Edge and giving him the Swanton.

Punk was able to keep his briefcase due to interference and Jeff showed Edge what he's in for at Judgment Day. Both Hardy and Punk have won the belt from Edge before and can do it again.

Its going to be interesting to see if Punk will cash in his briefcase at Judgment Day and who it will be against, Edge or Jeff Hardy.

Last year, Punk beat Edge after Edge was attacked viciously and was nearly unconscious and Punk took advantage of the moment and pinned Edge for the belt.

Deja vu, it may happen again. Almost the same scenario. Edge will need to watch himself and look over his shoulder because Punk can cash in his briefcase at anytime, anywhere against any champion.

Seems like he is zeroing in on Edge. History just might repeat itself.
