Ring Rap With Matt: Smackdown Review (May 1)
Hello, everyone.Thank you for joining me, folks, it's Friday night and you know what that means. Well for some of you that means going out and enjoying life for a bit. For the rest of us at home, Friday night means its another night on SMACKDOWN!
Well the fireworks are a blazin' and JR is out of ribs so that must mean it's time for the show. We hear the music folks who can it be,is it a bird, a plain or that fancy lad boy from down the block?
No, it's Chris Jericho. I guess we are not only hypocrites and liars, but I guess we are now parasites. Wow, I feel really dirty about myself right now, but anyhoo, the former king of bling bling isn't out here to insult us.

Most Likely Backlash Heel/Face Turns 🎭
No, he is out here to let the whole world that Smackdown is now his show, and he is putting everyone on notice. Did you know he was the 2008 Superstar of the Year?
In case you didn't, well, now you do. He starts to go on, but wait it's the man we all think we know, that's right, liars and hypocrites, its the 20-time world champ, Edge.
He goes on to tell fancy lad Jericho that he is the champ, and that he beat a man Jericho has never beaten. For the record, kiddies, that is not true. I have seen it firsthand, but on with the show.
He reminds Jericho that it is not his show to take, and says that it will be a honor to be in the greatest arena in the world...The Toronto Airline, Bic Shaver, whatever the hell it's called these days Arena.
He and Jericho are about to mouth off again but cue the music it's CM Punk! I guess he came out to relay a message to Edge, but before he can he is cut off by Jericho. He tells Punk nicely to please leave the ring, but Punk opts not to Jericho feels disrespected and leaves.
And then there were two. Punk is about to tell Edge something but the Edgster wants none of this nonsense so he tries to leave. Punk blocks his path and goes on to tell Edge that they have a match tonight, and if he wins, he is cashing in his MITB.
Well folks, all hell has broken loose, the crowd is screaming ,the popcorn vendors are being mugged and JR spilled all his BBQ sauce. We go to a commercial break.
Nice open for the show. All three worked well together. I have a feeling we are in for some funny moments with Edge and Jericho on the same show. All in all, a good way to start off Smackdown.
We come back and we are shown some of Smackdown's picks, which leads us into the first match.
Shelton Benjamin vs. John Morrison
This was a very quick match. Both got in some impressive offense for the time they had. Shelton lands a sick boot the head, and a nice inverted back breaker.
Morrison gets some nice dropkicks in and scores the moonlight drive for the three-count. This could have been off the charts. I really wish they would have let these guys go longer.
We go to another Jericho promo with Teddy Long. Fancy lad is complaining that he should be the No. 1 contender by default. He is interrupted by Khali who tells him to stop complaining Jericho leaves the office.
Rey Mysterio vs. Kane vs. Jeff Hardy vs. Chris Jericho (Fatal 4-Way)
The match starts off with Kane clearing house. He wipes out everyone he faces via fist or boot. Then Kane gets a lot of almost choke slams, but the tide is turned by the high Flyers. Hardy scores the Swanton, goes for the pin, but is pulled out by Jericho.
Jericho slides in the ring for the 1 2 3 on the Big red jobber. Well Kane didn't care for this he goes nuts throws some chairs in the ring. Jericho grabs one tosses it at Mysterio mid air and gets DQed for his troubles.
Jeff and Rey go at it. There were lots of nice high spots with these two. Rey scores a awesome cross body on Jeff. Rey also scores the 619. He flips over the ropes and lands on Hardy for the pin.
Jeff no sells Rey's offense (tsk, tsk, you know better Jeff), reverses Mysterio for the 1-2-3. Good match all in all so far I like what we are seeing with the new Smackdown faces.
We come back to yet another Jericho skit, this time complaining to Maria. He digs into her good but is interrupted by Edge, who proceeds to do the exact same thing.
We see some more of Smackdown's picks ending with Cryme Time.
Eve vs. Layla - Brooklyn Street dance-off or whatever they called it
This didn't go too long and was mildly entertaining .The two lovely ladies take turns showing of their skills, and skills they did have. Both were very flexible.
Well, Eve is announced the winner via the crowd. All start to dance, but Layla isn't too thrilled with the outcome. It then turns into a cat fight with the crowd shouting let them go.
We go to the back and we see MVP and Sherri. I guess he will be showing up on The View. Joy, I cant wait to see that. Let me set up my DVR now.
MVP vs Dolph Ziggler for the US title
Bad match IMO .Dolph gets some cheap heat stating that he is in Jersey .Like that hasn't been done a million times.
The match starts this turns into a dragged out squash match. Dolph gets little to no offense in. MVP then goes balling then hits the play maker for the 3 count.
Maybe I am not seeing it if I am wrong correct me, but why is Dolph Ziggler even around? When he wins, it looks bad, and when he loses, it looks worse.
Drrrruuuummmmm roll please its time for another Jericho skit .This time with Morrison, they are seen in the back. Jericho asks what the hell is he (Morrison) looking at?
Morrison states the he thought he was looking at a loser, but then says I guess he is looking at a quitter. Jericho slaps him in the face and they go at it. I hope this leads into a match; I would love to see these two lock up in the ring.
Edge vs. CM Punk - Non-title match
These two worked very well together. Punk scores a nice dropkick on Edge. Edge gets in a nice boot on Punk, and a nice-looking Sharpshooter. This went back and forth like that the whole match.
Punk in the end scores the Go 2 Sleep and gets the 3 count. He tells the ref he is cashing in his MITB contract.
The match goes to start but Umaga comes in and slams Punk. Edge then goes to nail punk with the brief case ,But hardy runs in and nails the Swanton on him.
My final thoughts
A good Smackdown from start to finish. I like the Edge and Jericho chemistry, and I think we will be seeing a lot of that.
Raw may have the star power but Smackdown will bring the better action IMO.
Solid work from all the guys in the back. Not to mention the new feuds that can bloom are endless.
Well that's it for me; good night all and God bless.
