After going one of six in an extended spring training game today and hitting a home run in Yesterday’s inter-squad game, the next step for A-rod is to play in the field.

Alex was playing DH in an extended spring training game today against the Pittsburgh Pirates minor leaguers. Extended spring trainings liberal rules allowed A-Rod to bat third in nearly every inning, hitting a single in his final at bat and drawing a walk.

Alex participated in fielding and agility drills before the game and spent some time in the cages. His next step may be playing five innings at third base tomorrow and then may be headed back to the big apple.

The target date for Alex’s return remains May 15th but Manager Joe Girardi is taking a wait and see attitude. If things go well we may be seeing Alex as early as next week.
