King J's Coverage of Manny Pacquiao vs Ricky Hatton: The Weigh In
Live from the fight capital of the world, King J is reporting to you from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on what just took place at the weigh in for this Saturday's highly anticipated fight of the year.
Both Manny Pacquiao and Ricky Hatton weighed in at exactly the limit at 140 lbs.
Both fighters looked fit, chiseled, and ready to go to war. Ricky Hatton instantly re-hydrated and drank the second he stepped off the scale. This may be an indication that Hatton was rather weight drained.
The atmosphere was surreal. Everything said about the hype of Ricky Hatton's fans is true. Thousands of Hatton fans all sang in unison at the top of their lungs: There's Only One Ricky Hatton, A song about the queen, and a song that sounded like...Teen Wolf?
It is one thing to have thousands of fans singing your own theme song, but to have your own drum band playing as well is just a whole other level of ridiculous love.
Michael Buffer stated that Hatton's father confirmed that there are 25,000 Brits in Las Vegas as of right now Friday at 3:00 pm Pacific Time, just to put things in perspective.
Bob Arum said, "All the Mexicans are rooting for one man in this fight and that is Pacquiao."
After he made this statement the crowd went wild and cheered.
Sugar Shane Mosley: "No I'm not gonna make a prediction for this fight."
Bernard Hopkins stated that he would be surprised if it goes the distance. He thinks Hatton has a good chance. Hopkins then went on to say, "Don't count him out, in this game anything can happen. Look at me, I'm 45 and I beat guys who were 26."
Oscar De La Hoya took the stage and said if he fought Ricky Hatton instead of Manny Pacquiao in December then he would have gotten knocked out. Oscar then ended his speech with, "I'm glad I retired so I can now have a pint!"
The Brits went crazy and cheered after this line.
Hatton definitely has the louder, more in-sync crowd with their rehearsed songs and drum band, but the Pacquiao fans are also no slouch they are just as loud and passionate about the Pac Man—just not as organized or rehearsed as the Brits are.
I was sitting next to Pacquiao's entourage which included his Wife, his brother, his mother who got up and danced. I was also sitting in front of another boxing champion from Pacquiao's home land, Nonito Donaire.
I was able to meet up with Juan Manuel Marquez, the best boxer in the game right now, and lets just say I have a treat for all of you coming soon (wink).
I will be uploading a slide show of this legendary weigh in in a few hours so check back in a few hours.
If you aren't excited right about now, then you really need to check your pulse to see if you are even alive. It is finally fight weekend ladies and gentleman and the biggest fight of the year is only 24 hours away!
If you have any questions you would like to be asked to your favorite fighters who may be here this weekend, feel free to email me.
