Auburn Football: Chris Landrum, Harris Gaston Will Reportedly Transfer

Randy ChambersJun 8, 2018

Another day, another transfer.

This time Auburn is left to pick up the pieces, as backup linebackers Chris Landrum and Harris Gaston have transferred from the school, according to Ryan Wood of the Opelika-Auburn News.

Brandon Marcello of AL.com reports that both will leave the Tigers for Jacksonville State in hopes of receiving more playing time. They should be able to play right away.

Seeing the field wasn't something either was too familiar with at Auburn. Gaston hasn't played since the 2010 season. Meanwhile, Landrum was a backup fullback last year before switching to linebacker this spring.

Bryan Matthews of 247Sports caught up with Landrum's mother, who indicated this move was strictly a football decision.

“He was happy at Auburn, but he wanted to make a football career change,” said Landrum’s mother, Jackie Landrum.

Due to their lack of contribution, these moves shouldn't make or break the upcoming season for Gus Malzahn and his staff.

Landrum was buried on the depth chart behind solid depth with guys such as Kris Frost, Jake Holland and LaDarius Owens. Meanwhile, Gaston was facing another season of riding the bench for the most part after returning this spring as a walk-on.

According to Scout, Gaston was a 3-star middle linebacker coming out of the 2009 class, while Landrum was a 3-star player from the 2011 class.
