Jose Mourinho, Please Sign for Chelsea Tomorrow and End Endless Speculation

Ian RodgersJun 8, 2018

Jose Mourinho has been seen here. Somebody says Jose Mourinho will be here. Jose Mourinho has signed a "xx-year contract" at Chelsea, courtesy of the official Premier League website.

When the former Real Madrid manager finally makes his return to Stamford Bridge, as The Sun's Rob Beasley reported recently, it will come as a blessed relief as well as a cause of celebration for the Blues supporters.

The seemingly endless speculation surrounding the Special One has dominated the sports news agenda for several months now.

The Times claims the deal to bring Mourinho back to Chelsea could be completed on Monday, which will finally bring a close to one of the longest running sagas in the English capital since The Mousetrap opened in the West End of London.

Make no mistake about it, Mourinho remains a stellar name in world football after his successes with FC Porto, Chelsea, Inter Milan and, to a lesser extent, Real Madrid.

Two Champions League trophies, successive Premier League titles and breaking the Barcelona hold on the La Liga title are testament to his abilities as a manager.

Mourinho is, colloquially speaking, "box office" and his personality and charisma are as much a part of his success as the teams he has put out.

Witness the mob of photographers on the side of the Bernabeu Stadium pitch as the Portuguese coach emerged from the players' tunnel 40 seconds into his final game in charge against Osasuna on Saturday.

Such was the demand for a picture of Mourinho's last entrance that the match was stopped for a short time as the snappers were removed from the sidelines.

Since then, Real president Florentino Perez has informed Sky Sports News that Mourinho is on his way back to Chelsea.

"

Mourinho is going to Chelsea. Probably on Monday he will be their new manager. We wish him good luck.

"

This news followed the outbreak of mild hysteria when the Premier League website announced Mourinho's signing in error.

When stories such as Mourinho's return become comfortable to predict, media outlets have pre-prepared articles ready for publication. There is no accounting for human error pushing the wrong button, though, as the Daily Mail reported.

Mourinho's touchdown in London on Sunday afternoon was also the subject for the breaking news ticker on Sky Sports News.

It is quite phenomenal how much attention has been paid to Mourinho this weekend. While Manchester City and Everton are likely to unveil their own new managers this week, it is proof that there really only is one show in town.
