Top Finishers

Ruler of the World

Ruler of the World looked awfully impressive on Saturday, following up on a dominant effort at the Chester Vase with a win at Epsom Downs.

Although Dawn Approach could have run a much better race, credit Aidan O'Brien and his colt for delivering when it mattered most, winning one of horse racing's most coveted titles. For O'Brien, this is his fourth victory at the Epsom Derby, per RTE Racing:

With the 12-horse field including five of his horses, it would have been heartbreaking for O'Brien not to have won. Unfortunately, the horse his son was riding, Battle of Marengo, finished fourth.

Libertarian

Owner Hubert John Strecker has to be pleased with Libertarian's memorable finish on Saturday.

Although this horse entered the day with solid odds to contend, his ability to close the gap late with Galileo Rock and place second in such a high-level race no doubt surpassed the team's expectations.

Who knows where Libertarian would have finished had Dawn Approach run the race many believed he was capable of running. Coming into the event, it was O'Brien's talented pair of horses, Ruler of the World and Battle of Marengo who were supposed to challenge the favorite, but instead it's Libertarian who delivered big, paying off well for bold bettors.

Galileo Rock

A 25-1 long-shot to win on Saturday, Galileo Rock surprisingly came home third. But it could have been better as Libertarian ran the colt down late to steal second place.

The third place finish remains a promising run from the underdog (via Adam W):

Still, despite some lackluster performances in his most recent outings, Galileo Rock looked like a special horse running behind Ruler of the World. He wasn't able to finish as strong as trainer David Wachman would have liked, but he made some lucky bettors very happy nonetheless.
