Chelsea Transfer Rumours: Marco Van Ginkel Would Be Great Move for Future
Chelsea might want to win right now, but Marco van Ginkel is the kind of signing who will pay massive dividends down the line.
The Daily Mail's John Drayton reported the Blues are interested in moving for the Vitesse midfielder this summer. Although the paper is often way off when it comes to transfer rumours, this is a move that makes a lot of sense.
Van Ginkel is one of the best young midfielders in the Eredivisie. He's scored eight goals and added 10 assists in 33 league appearances this year. Van Ginkel also made 56 appearances in the Eredivisie in the two previous seasons, scoring 10 goals and recording six assists.

Only 20 years old, he's already got a national team cap under his belt after coming on in the 59th minute in a friendly against Germany.
As his goal numbers would attest, Van Ginkel can be a threat to score from midfield. Where he's at his best, though, is when he's looking to create with the ball at his feet.
Considering his nationality, it's no surprise Van Ginkel is a talented midfielder. The Netherlands seem to have a never-ending assembly line of creative players. What is surprising, though, is just how far advanced Van Ginkel is for his age.
He's a tremendous passer. Van Ginkel knows exactly when and where to place his passes and how much pace to put on them. It's not far off to say he can become one of the best passers in the world.
Along with that skill, Van Ginkel can be a tireless runner. He's willing to travel everywhere on the pitch, thus offering a ton of versatility.
At his age, Van Ginkel might not be able to get an immediate place in the Chelsea squad. That would be a problem considering these are the years where he most needs first-team to develop on the potential he's shown.
That's where Chelsea's partnership with Vitesse could come in handy. The Blues have already loaned players to that club before, so it's realistic to think they could work it in the deal that Van Ginkel would stay at Vitesse in the short term.
It would be the best of both worlds as Van Ginkel could continue to learn and develop in what is still a good enough league for young midfielders. Meanwhile, Chelsea will have him locked up in the future and be ready to bring him on when he's ready to make an impact.
Frank Lampard may have signed a one-year extension at Chelsea, but he can't prowl the midfield forever. By about the time Lampard is ready to call time on his Blues' career, Van Ginkel would be ready to ascend to a starting role.
With their somewhat similar styles, there also wouldn't need to be a massive transition from Lampard to Van Ginkel. Whomever the manager is would be able to maintain the exact same style of play.
The club does already have Josh McEachran, but with all due respect to English midfielder, Van Ginkel would be a much better option for the future.
If Chelsea could get Van Ginkel for about £8-10 million, they would be getting a massive steal.
