Predictions for Wednesday's Top Matches
Serena Williams (1) vs. Caroline Garcia
This should be a chance for 19-year-old Caroline Garcia to learn from an all-time great, more than anything.
Garcia, who made her WTA Tour debut at Wimbledon in 2010, is 15-11 this year. She played Jelena Jankovic tough in a three-set loss in Charleston, but, beyond that, she hasn't done much.
Williams is coming off a dominant 6-0, 6-1 victory over Anna Tatishvili in the first round at Roland Garros. She registered eight aces and 27 winners in the victory, while taking 88 percent of first-serve points, 78 percent of second-serve points and 62 percent of return points, via RolandGarros.com. It took her a grand total of 51 minutes.
The 15-time Grand Slam singles champion is looking to capture her second career French Open title.
Prediction: Williams 6-2, 6-1
Roger Federer (2) vs. Somdev Devvarman
Somdev Devvarman is not only a mediocre 9-7 on the ATP Tour this year, but he's also a career 4-10 on clay, including an 0-1 record this year on the surface.
While 31-year-old Roger Federer hasn't been as dominant this year as in previous ones, he still outclasses Devvarman. The Swiss is coming off a straight-set victory over Pablo Carreno-Busta at Roland Garros.
And while Federer isn't as dominant this year, the only true letdown he's had was against Julien Benneteau in Rotterdam.
Expect Federer to make quick work of Devvarman, just like he did Carreno-Busta.
Prediction: Federer 6-2, 6-3, 6-3
David Ferrer (4) vs. Albert Montanes
After going 76-15 last year, David Ferrer is having another strong campaign, posting a record of 31-9 with two singles titles before the French Open. Five of those losses have come against Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray.
Albert Montanes, on the other hand, is 11-9 on the season. Seven of his nine losses have come in straight sets.
Given Ferrer's form and his 4-0 career record against Montanes, it's hard to give Montanes any chance in this match, even after his title in Nice.
Prediction: Ferrer 6-3, 6-2, 6-2
