Liverpool Transfer Rumours: Christian Eriksen Should Be Reds Top Priority

Richard LangfordJun 8, 2018

If it's not too late already, Liverpool needs to step up its pursuit of Christian Eriksen. The 21-year-old midfielder is a scintillating talent, and he would be a cornerstone of the Reds for years to come.

Of course, other squads realize this as well, and there is reason to believe that Eriksen may be on the verge of landing with Borussia Dortmund

The Daily Mail's Paul Collins cited reports from Denmark that "the German club have put in a £10million offer for one of the hottest young properties in Europe, with a fee of around £13m to be agreed between the club

The publication tweeted the news:

Liverpool's interest in Eriksen has not been a big secret. The Guardian's Daniel Harris reported it here, and Liverpool centre-back Daniel Agger has been openly recruiting his international teammate.

Agger told the Daily Mail: “We want to play attacking football with the ball on the ground and that is exactly what Christian Eriksen is all about. That is the kind of player we need.”

It is impossible to argue with Agger. Eriksen, who already has 34 caps, is one of the most exciting attacking midfielders in the game. He is a very creative player with a knack for making things happen.

In 109 Eredivisie fixtures, he has 23 goals and 44 assists, and in 156 matches with Ajax, he has earned 30 goals and 57 assists. Not a bad tally of accomplishments for a 21-year-old.

His skills could be a mainstay in Liverpool's attacks as a wide attacking option or on the side of the  front man in either the 4-3-3 or the 4-4-2.

While there are signs that suggest it is too late for Liverpool to win the battle for Eriksen, until the news is made official, there is always time to sweeten the offer and sway Eriksen's future home to Liverpool.

This would be a costly route, and considering the desire of Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers to add three to four quality players this summer, it might be one that Liverpool shies away from.

This would be a mistake. Eriksen is the perfect fit for Liverpool. It is hard to quantify a price on bringing in a talent like this, and Liverpool must now pull out all the stops, and cash, to try and land him.
