Contreras,offense Improving steadily
In the scheme of things, it is probably better that the White Sox win the games they play than it is that the bank and of the rotation looks good. But it cannot be ignored that whether or not the White Sox win the division will be dependent on how Bartolo Colon And José Contreras perform the rest of the year. So far, Colon has looked like the better pitcher, but if Joses last outing is a sign of things to come, the back end of the rotation may be in far better shape than it looked during spring training. Contreras, who has struggled with his control over the first couple of starts, looked a whole lot sharper and a whole lot more in control as he pitched seven innings giving up three runs on eight hits against the Blue Jays team that is swinging the bat extremely well right now. The backend of the rotation is not the only thing that is beginning to look up for the White Sox. In Saturday’s 10-2 rout of the Blue Jays, some of the key pieces of the offense began to come alive. Brian Anderson, getting a chance to play consistently is hitting 349, Alexi Ramirez while still bedding below 200, hit his fifth grand slam of his career which tied a major league record for fastest among players. Ramirez has hit his five grand slams in less than two seasons, many of them coming and very important times in games. Paul Konerko crow and Jermaine dye have continued to hit well and seemed to be poised for a great summer. This power in the middle of the lineup is great for a team that usually struggles to hit in the beginning of the year. With those two guys hitting the way they are, it will give the players that are not hitting so well a chance to work out their problems. If Jim Thome and Carlos Quentin start hitting the ball like I know they can, this could be one of the most feared offenses in the league. The one thing that this offense needs is to be able to hit and more situational times, which Konerko has been doing a lot more lately, hitting an RBI double that plated two runs to give the White Sox the lead on Sunday. The White Sox are currently one game out of first place with a record of nine wins and nine losses. The next opponent for them is the Seattle Mariners team that was absolutely terrible last year but comes into the series at the top of the American League West standing with a record of 12-7 .
