Junior dos Santos vs. Mark Hunt: Cigano Now Set for Rematch with Cain Velasquez
Junior dos Santos was able to handle Mark Hunt at UFC 160 without much problem, and now things should be set for Cigano to face Cain Velasquez and attempt to regain the heavyweight championship belt.
The fight against the Super Samoan didn’t give dos Santos much trouble. He controlled most of the fight, and then ended it with a devastating wheel kick in the third round to win by knockout.
With the win for dos Santos, it now feels like it is time for another fight between Cigano and Velasquez for the championship.
It appears that the fight will be set. According to a report by Yahoo! Sports before UFC 160 began, the winner of the Hunt vs. dos Santos fight would be fighting the winner of Silva vs. Velasquez for a chance at the title belt.
Now that both of these fighters won on Saturday night, the fight is good to go.
The last time these fighters went at it was at UFC 155, when dos Santos held the belt. Velasquez won the fight by unanimous decision, taking the belt away from dos Santos. Before that fight, they had met once before in 2011, where dos Santos won by knockout in the very first round.
These are quite easily the two best fighters in the heavyweight division right now. The third fight between the two may be tiring for some, but the matchup makes for one of the most exciting matches in the UFC right now.
Velasquez is a quick fighter, usually weighing in around 240 pounds. For a heavyweight fighter, he is extremely quick. He uses his speed to throw a furious amount of punches in quick succession. He also excels at bringing opponents to the ground and wreaking havoc with his strong ground-and-pound game.
Meanwhile, dos Santos also weighs in around 240 pounds and is a fast fighter. He can land some devastating blows, particularly with his uppercuts. He does a good job defending takedowns, and is a hard opponent to get to the ground.
This is becoming one of the bigger rivalries in all of the MMA due to the electric nature of both fighters. If dos Santos vs. Velasquez III is getting ready to happen soon, UFC fans around the world can be excited for another great fight.
