UFC 160 Results: Power Ranking the Facebook Prelim Fights

Scott HarrisMay 25, 2013

UFC 160 kicked off on Facebook at about 6:30 p.m. ET on Saturday. Maybe you had something else going on a Saturday afternoon or early evening. I don't know where your priorities are as a person if that's the case, but I don't judge people, you know? To each his own, is what I say.

So in case you fall into this immoral, undevoted fan contingent, here is a ranking of each Facebook fight, including information capsules and action recaps.

3. Stephen Thompson vs. Na-Shon Burrell

1 of 3

Division: Welterweight
Result: Stephen Thompson def. Na-Shon Burrell by Unanimous Decision

Thompson, the phenomenal kickboxing champion, showed a lot of phenomenal, well, kickboxing. But it was Burrell who probably landed the greater number of strikes. Still, Burrell was not as aggressive as he could have been—especially as the fight waned and Thompson badly gassed—and that probably cost him the fight. Oddly, Thompson also won the takedown battle 2-0.

All in all, a pretty lackluster fight between two talented but flawed fighters. Thompson needs to learn how to do more than kick if he wants to advance beyond the novelty stage of the UFC continuum.

2. Jeremy Stephens vs. Estevan Payan

2 of 3

Division: Featherweight
Result: Jeremy Stephens def. Estevan Payan by Unanimous Decision

The card kicked off with a full outclassing by Stephens. Payan got cut on his forehead early and gushed throughout. The red stuff was virtually sheeting off his face at points.

The fight seemed to go out of Payan along with the blood. This one was interesting if you like gore, but otherwise, no.

1. George Roop vs. Brian Bowles

3 of 3

Division: Bantamweight
Result: George Roop def. Brian Bowles by TKO, Rd. 2

Bowles looked pretty good in Round 1, though he may have given away some momentum by going for a guillotine choke instead of striking after knocking Roop down toward the end of the frame.

Roop found his range and teed off in the second round, swarming Bowles after a knockdown and seeming to hit Bowles from 15 feet away when he wound up those long arms. Bowles turtled, and that was it.
