Velasquez vs Silva 2: Round-by-Round Recap and Analysis

Scott HarrisJun 8, 2018

It's hard to believe that as dominant as Cain Velasquez is, he has never once successfully defended the UFC heavyweight belt, despite possessing it on two separate occasions.

The odds are with Velasquez (11-1) changing that tonight against Antonio "Bigfoot" Silva, who Velasquez hammered into pulp for a TKO victory exactly one year ago Sunday.

Silva (18-4) has taken two in a row since that bloody setback, including a stirring knockout of presumptive top contender Alistair Overeem. He'll have quite a stress test in front of him Saturday night when he attempts to even the score with Velasquez.

Didn't order the pay-per-view? Looking for some instant analysis? You're in the right place. In the following slides, we'll provide round-by-round updates and analysis as the action unfolds.

Round 1

1 of 1

Fight begins a few minutes after midnight, meaning it is taking place on May 26, exactly one year after their first fight.

They start out with Velasquez going for takedowns. Silva stuffs two and that's encouraging.

They move around on the feet and Silva comes in to throw a right hand, but Cain lands a left jab and then a hard right that fells Silva as he moves in.

He finishes it with hammerfists and punches on the ground and that's all, folks!
