JDS vs Hunt Full Fight Round-by-Round Recap and Analysis

Steven RondinaJun 8, 2018

The fight that nobody expected but everyone wanted is finally here! Former heavyweight champ Junior dos Santos and hard-hitting K-1 veteran Mark Hunt. This matchup between two of MMA's top knockout artists has anything you could want in a fight.

Both fighters have dynamite hands, and there are huge title implications here.

So how is this fight actually shaking out? Are things going the way of Belfort vs. Rockhold or Bisping vs. Belcher?

Find out right here!

Round 1

1 of 3

The fight we've all been waiting for!

Junior lands an early right that stumbles Hunt. Hunt recovers quickly, but seems a tad bit more tentative.

Even though JDS landed the first big hit, he clearly respects Hunt's raw power. However, he clearly has the speed advantage, and successfully stays clear from Hunt's swings.

The round presses on with Dos Santos out-pointing Hunt, but not too many huge strikes outside the big knockdown. Have to call the round...

10-9 Dos Santos

Round 2

2 of 3

Hunt is fully aggressive following the first round knockdown and continues to be, for the most part, the fight's primary aggressor.

Dos Santos is keeping his back to the cage, but Hunt is having trouble connecting with anything, as he whiffs big rights and is either stuffed or countered. Very little to say about it the round other than that.

Oh, until both fighters swap some big punches. Still, though, this was a round defined by JDS out-pointing Hunt. Hunt is starting to look a bit tired. Not as tired as he did against Stefan Struve (which is huge), but he is breathing heavily while dos Santos isn't.

Again, though, JDS continues to find homes for his punches while Hunt doesn't. No way to score this round other than...

10-9 Dos Santos

Round 3

3 of 3

Hunt is still swinging heavily, but time is running out.

JDS still looks fresh and quick enough to dodge each haymaker Hunt throws. Hunt is still looking surprisingly solid considering he isn't known for his amazing cardio.

The former champ seems more and more confident in his counter striking, though he is not looking to press the action against Hunt.

With 90 seconds left, JDS lands a huge left and rocks Hunt. Hunt recovers quickly, but gets up in time to eat, out of nowhere, a huge spin kick that connects and floors Hunt. Dos Santos then finishes the fight with a huge punch that knocks Hunt completely unconscious.

A downright absurd finish. Hunt stumbles into the cage after trying to stand after the ref separates them.

Again, what a finish.
