UFC Has Gotten My Attention
Oh dear! That is a copy of the tramp stamp I am going to be getting . . .oops!
But now that I have gotten your attention, let me tell you how the UFC got my attention and sucked me into events 101 and 102.
After the Anderson Siva vs. Thales Leites fight, which Dana White and many others have complained about not being a very exciting fight, the UFC has announced three upcoming fights to UFC 101 and 102 which have me in an uproar.
I am beginning to wonder if any of these fights has been scheduled to make amends for what viewers felt was missing in UFC 97's main event, or is just a lucky coincidence of matches between top rated Brazilian fighters and tough North American fighters.
The most recently announced match up of Nate Marquardt and Demian Maia has me very excited. Possibly the winner will be facing Anderson Silva for a championship bout.
Marquardt looked very sharp in his last fight as did Maia in his and the thought of them meeting each other will be like watching two trains collide.
Marquardt's striking power and Maia's submissions skills lead to so many possibilities on the feet or on the ground.
Nate has at times appeared to be as unstoppable as a tank the way he overwhelms his opponents.
When in the past Maia went from one submission attempt to another, finally overpowering Jason MacDonald, I sat in suprised disbelief, hardly breathing, I felt so spent just from watching the fast paced action.
I will definitely be watching this one.
Forrest Griffin is scheduled to fight Thiago Silva and I cannot imagine anything better than seeing Forrest's rock-em sock-em style against Thiago's great speed and agility
Well my goodness gracious, Mr. Brian Oswald just dropped in to correct me on this. According to the MMA Community leader, I am in error and it is actually Anderson Silva himself who gets the privilege of exchanging shots with Forrest Griffin!
May the good Lord have mercy on my soul! How much excitement can an elderly MMA fan stamd?
Could anything beat this? I highly doubt that it can! Thanks for the news flash Mr. Oswald.
This should be a real fast paced slug-fest from start to finish. The only aspect that is worrisome is that all most any Griffin fight could be called for bleeding as he always cuts so easily and spurts blood from the smallest cut like a fountain. Even as a retired nurse, I don't enjoy the sight of blood.
Finally, perhaps as punishment for his frequent butt-dropping performance, Thiago Silva is matched up with my herky-jerky honey Keith Jardine.
If Thiago was truly afraid to mix it up with Anderson, what is the satanic appearance of Keith doing a "goat man's dance" (like Tom Hanks and Dan Ackroid in the Dragnet spoof), going to do to his self confidence.
Just the slightly off kilter pre-fight stare down could win this one for Keith.
So my life and immediate future will be centered around MMA and the UFC well into August.
Although I am not much for hot humid weather, I am really stoked for the steam and heat that will surely be generated by some very exciting octogon exchanges.
Hope all the fighters stay sharp and healthy.
I will be doing my best to do likewise, because they don't show PPV's in the hospital.
