Complete Roundup of RGIII's 1st Practice Since Devastating Knee Injury

Robert Griffin IIIย was back on the field for the Washington Redskins during a Thursday OTA session after havingย reconstructive knee surgery on January 9. ย

He took snaps under center, made throws to his receivers and even briskly jogged between drills while sporting a bulky knee brace.ย

ESPN had live coverage of RG3's practice. The 2012 Offensive Rookie of the Year didn't appear to be hindered by his injury.

Here's a shot byย Rich Campbell ofย The Washington Timesย of Griffin III moments before he put on a helmet and began airing it out:

Griffin III showed very littleโ€”if anyโ€”apprehension as he ran to the initial throwing drill, although he smartly didn't push himself or run full speed.ย

The Redskins' official Twitter account posted this video that shows Griffin III dropping back and throwing the ball to rookie running back Chris Thompson.

He was quick in his drops and was able to firmly plant his injured leg before firing the ball down the field or toward the sidelines.

Footwork and weight shift are vital to a quarterback's generation of velocity and ball placement, and Griffin III didn't have any unusual compensatory hitch in the way he moved away from the center or released the football.

Washington D.C. sports photographer Edย Sheahinย was in attendance and tweeted the following about how RG3 looked:ย

"

Quite the endorsement.ย

Griffin held a mini-press conference after practice and commented on his recovery.

"

Rg3 says he has two steps left in rehab. He'll start "explosive sprinting" in "a few weeks". And then start cutting a few weeks after that.

While it's too early to make a definitive judgment on RG3's recovery timetable, his first on-field action of the offseason was certainly encouraging.ย

Right now, a Week 1 return doesn't seem to be out of the question. Griffin expects to be on the field for the first week of the season.
