The Bambino finally (throws) strikes
The Bambino spanks Bravos.
Micah Owings had a fantastic outing today going 7 full allowing only one late solo dinger to former Red, David Ross. He also gave up 6 hits, 3 walks, and struck out 6. But he’s not done. The Bambino went 2-3 at the plate with a double and a run scored to help his cause. The guy is a beast! Welsh suggested that his fine performance today should be traced to the fact that he’s finally pitching on schedule. Let’s hope Welsh is right and let’s hope that he can replicate this outing in the future.
I guess the offense had been hanging out at the Reds Hall of Fame and Museum the past couple of days because it certainly wasn’t anywhere to be found on the field. Thankfully, it finished it’s tour of the Crosley Field exhibit and showed up where it belonged today. Jay Bruce hit a pair of taters and 4 RBI on a 3-3 day at the plate. He also gunned down whiner extraordinaire Yunel Escobar at 2B. I sound like a record when I mention Joey Votto every single post, but he gives me no choice! He went 2-3 today, both were doubles, and knocked in 3 runs. Unfortunately for him, Brandon Phillips bats directly behind him. That’s why he’s crossed the plate only 8 times this season - 5 if you don’t count the 3 times he batted himself in (and I don’t). BP just cannot stop swinging for the fences. And what’s worse is that when he finally does something good, he screws up. For example, today Brandon turned what should have been a double off the right field wall into a single. Brandon must have been thinking,
"“I’m in a terrible slump. I can’t hit the ball to save my life and it’s embarrassing! Well, this one’s definitely outta here so I’m going to watch this one and practice my victory lap around the bags. Oh yeah, momma’s watchin! HEY MOMMA!! I’m dedicating this homer to you! Ha! Look at Jeff Francoeur! That ball went straight over his head! The Face of the Franchise is BACK BABY! I wonder what I should say to Jeff Piecoro after the…… OH CRAP! It didn’t go out?? Dusty’s gonna be pissed. Oh well. Glad I don’t play in Chicago.”
"
Ramon Hernandez had a nice little game today (2-4) and Chris Dickerson just sucks. I know he was in there as a PH, but I’m just making up for yesterday.
Edwin still can’t buy a hit or a break. If he doesn’t get it going, this guy’s outta here. I have to believe that his bat will get going at some time, but so far he looks like Edinson Volquez in the batter’s box.
Danny Herrera is still rocking the weasel-stash. I seriously want a picture of it even if I have to take it myself. It’s absolutely magnificent!
DON’T FORGET TO VOTE for Sam LeCure! My wife joined the campaign the other day. I’m so proud of her.
