Dreams Being Shattered-Quiting-Going Extreme: Whats Next for the Hardys?

Joe Burgett Apr 29, 2009

For a long time it seemed as if we would not see the world of wrestling go "extreme." After ECW closed its doors, many of us thought the matches we saw there would never been seen in the WWE or WCW.

After WCW suddenly went down close to the same time as ECW, the WWE became the only big name wrestling promotion. So the extreme kind of matches were ones that seemed in the past.

I mean no one was crazy enough to do those matches, right? As Edge said to the little kid in the front row at RAW one week, WRONG! WRONG! WRONG!

The Hardy Brothers, Jeff and Matt came along. Now, they were around in the WWE before both WCW and ECW went under. But they had not been in any extreme kind of matches other than the first ever tag team ladder match in the WWE.

Where they both showed the impossible with ladders, being innovative, and making us love to watch them.

Both then went on to TLC matches, along with others such as Edge, Christian, and the Dudleys.

However no one out of those men other than Edge became a World Champion in the WWE. Christian became a two time World Champ in TNA, and is now the ECW Champion in WWE. Which is a debatable World Title for the WWE.

Many do not consider it a World Title anymore, however it was when they first brought it to the WWE. Now it has been considered the equivalent to the United States or Intercontinental Title.

But that is like I said, up for debate.

The Hardys have won singles and tag titles, but keeping with the ECW Champion idea, only one has a legit World Title in Jeff Hardy who won the WWE Championship.

Jeff has always seemed to be over more with fans, while Matt has been too, but not as much. Jeff is the one winning all the titles, while Matt is just "supporting" him.

Matt has only 5 singles titles in his career in the Hardcore, European, Cruiserweight, United States, and ECW Championships.

While Jeff has 1 less in that with just IC Titles in four. He has also been a European Champion, Hardcore, and WWE Champion. So with that said, both have won similar titles except for the World Titles.

Why has Jeff though won so man IC Titles, which has been considered the #2 title after the World Titles? The fact is that Jeff has so much more likability and marketability.

His highflying skill that makes fans young and old like him, could be the reason why coupled with that too. They could not give Jeff a World Title during the times he was so popular, but to keep fans satisfied they gave him the IC title.

Which was ok for the fans, but when he started looking good in matches with Randy Orton, John Cena, Chris Jericho, Triple H, HBK, Undertaker, and others people began to think, why is he not a World Champion by now?

You can like or hate Jeff's in ring ability, or just him period. But you have to think fans had a point when they claimed Jeff should be a World Champion.

And the WWE realized that, then finally gave him one.

Matt was another story, when he had Jeff with him he started to get noticed. He was the brains and got the pins while Jeff got the job done. Jeff sacrificed himself to have Matt win the matches.

So while it is true Matt got the wins most of the time for them in tag action, Jeff did the work to help do that.

Then the WWE saw that, they realized that he had potential, but they needed to put him in singles action to show it.

So then they began to see that he had good wrestling ability that was lost in tag action with Jeff. Then the WWE wanted to make sure that both Jeff and Matt started winning, but they both got in the ring more, not just one or the other.

Jeff would still do a lot of work, but so would Matt. So that way, the fans would see what they both had instead of one.

Then that made the WWE give Matt more opportunities to get in singles action and then he kept showing promise and then that lead to titles.

They finally realized that they needed to split them apart to make sure that both lived up to their potential. This was good for not just Jeff but Matt to because it made sure that they both would prove their worth to the company.

All the sudden Matt started doing well and Jeff was too, so that made things even better.

Jeff suddenly left for TNA where he did very well, but was not as successful as he was in the WWE strangely when he could have been.

He finally came back to the WWE, but during the time he was gone Matt was doing very well in singles action.

He is one of the most popular feuds of all time with Edge and Lita. Many know Lita and Matt broke up because of Edge in real life, then the WWE decided to make a storyline out of it.

While we as people think that it was a bad move by the WWE, and both Matt and Edge and of course Lita did not was to do it. It was still done, and we as fans ate it up.

One of the most popular true, but because it was a real life event.

Jeff then came back to the WWE and all the sudden things started to look good for both. We saw more tag action with them, and that was cool. But then Matt had to go to SmackDown because of his lose to Edge in a loser leave the brand match.

Jeff during this time began doing well, and fans liked him even more than ever. Matt did not do to shabby either winning the United States title and what not.

Jeff of course won an IC Title too, because of the fact that the WWE was to timid to put the World Title on him.

He finally started getting into the spotlight more in main event matches with guys like Orton, even getting a World Title match or two.

But lost them.

Jeff was then moved to SmackDown in the WWE Draft, and Matt went to ECW.

It seemed Jeff was going to do well there, and he did. But still was not getting his chance at the World Title.

He deserved it, but it was not given to him. Meanwhile Matt won the ECW Title. the it happened Jeff won the WWE Championship, and it seemed Matt was happy.

But soon after he cost his brother the WWE Title shocking the World.

But it was a good move by the WWE because it seemed to give Matt the push he needed as he was just going to be a US Title winner at best. Maybe another ECW Title or two.But he did deserve more.

And when he took on one of the most over men in the company which happened to be his brother Jeff, he started to look like the future World Champion that we knew he could be.

They were not jealous of each other in real life, which meant since they were brothers they could make both look good in matches.

They tried to do this before with them, but the fact was fans nor the Hardys were ready for it.

But now they are, and making Matt a heel is the best move they could ever have done with him.

Jeff would still do well as a face, so both win.

Also the fact that they are split up again on two separate shows, they both can do well without looking any worse than the other.

Matt as a heel could be considered the #2 heel on RAW right now, meaning he will good feuds there and possibly be in a few main events.

Jeff is the top face on SmackDown, while there are others who are big faces there, non are as over as he is.

Which means he could win in the match Friday and face Edge at Judgement Day for the World Heavyweight Championship. While he may not win, he still has the possibility that he can be a World Champion again.

Matt has the possibility to win a legit World Title in the WWE too.

Right now there is to much star power there with the likes or Orton, Triple H, Batista, Cena, and others.

But three of those men are faces. Meaning Orton can not be the one guy who is always in the spotlight as the World Champion.

And he also needs to take time off sometime. That tells me that  Hardy would easily come in and do well and maybe become WWE Champion.

I see that happening, but not soon. I think having him win the MITB at Wrestlemania 26 is the best bet.

He could cash it in at anytime and that way he is guaranteed to show us what he can do as a Brands World Champion. He did well as ECW Champion, but faced lackadaisical guys there until Jack Swagger.

He held it a while, and did well. So you would have to think the WWE is seriously considering him as a future World Heavyweight or WWE Champion.

I feel you can easily have Jeff win a match on SmackDown against anyone who is World Champ at the time. But Matt on RAW has to kind of steal it because of the star power there.

He is popular, but when you put him and Cena side by side, the WWE will pick Cena. It is just that simple.

So MITB looks to be Matt's only way to win a legit World Title in the WWE. And he does deserve it too.

I feel having him do some sort of Edge gimmick could work. Edge did very well after he won his first World Title in the WWE. So I feel Matt needs to do the same type of thing.

Win the MITB, and cash it in at a time the fans do not expect it.

The Hardys have at least 6 to 8 more years left in them. Matt maybe has more because of the way he wrestles compared to Jeff, who has put his body through a lot of torture.

With that said, you would think that the WWE wants to use them as much as they can. And since fans love them no matter what, heel or face. You would want to put them in the limelight and give them as many World Title to sell merchandise and market your company.

So in the end everyone wins here
