Rating the Liverpool Players Against Fulham
A clinical hat-trick from Daniel Sturridge helped Liverpool to a fine 3-1 win at Fulham in their final away match of the 2012/13 campaign.
The Reds kept possession impressively throughout the afternoon, although they did fall behind when Dimitar Berbatov headed home a Sascha Riether cross.
Sturridge wasted no time in drawing Liverpool level when he latched onto Andre Wisdom's long ball and impressively fired home, but the Reds were fortunate to escape when Lucas Leiva appeared to handle the ball in the area early in the second half.
Reds forward Sturridge—a former player for Fulham's rivals Chelsea—then sealed the game with two fine finishes from Philippe Coutinho passes, as the visitors stormed to an impressive win.
Here's how the Reds fared:
Pepe Reina
1 of 12He made a good second-half save and was generally solid on an afternoon when the Reds somewhat impressively showed authority. Rating: 7/10
Andre Wisdom
2 of 12Brought into the side as Rodgers opted to start with three central defenders, Wisdom didn't do much wrong but needs to work on his distribution. He was taken off at half-time. 6/10
Sebastian Coates
3 of 12The Uruguayan got a rare call-up due to an illness for Martin Skrtel, and although he's still somewhat raw, Coates did what was required. 6/10
Jamie Carragher
4 of 12It was the last ever away display for Carragher, who largely marshalled Berbatov well and adjusted to the half-time change of system well (early air kick aside). 6/10
Glen Johnson
5 of 12An important Liverpool attacking threat who seemed to gain more prominence throughout, Johnson will have impressed many here. 8/10
Stewart Downing
6 of 12Initially stationed at left wing-back but moved to the right of a more conventional setup in the second half, Downing offered support but little else. 6/10
Lucas
7 of 12This was a good display from Lucas, who quickly got to grips with Eyong Enoh and Giorgios Karagounis in midfield. 7/10
Jordan Henderson
8 of 12This wasn't Henderson's finest hour, but he's still learning and only looks like getting better with age. 6/10
Jonjo Shelvey
9 of 12Entrusted with the Gerrard role for day, Shelvey did admirably. He involved himself in the majority of Liverpool's attacks and was unlucky not to score. 7/10
Philippe Coutinho
10 of 12Once again, the Brazilian was excellent. His movement and range of passing were a joy to watch as the Reds eased to their win. 9/10
Daniel Sturridge
11 of 12As an ex-Chelsea player, Sturridge was obviously keen to one over on Fulham—with spectacular results. His hat-trick was just reward for an afternoon on which he excelled. A completed forward's performance. 10/10
Substitutes
12 of 12Jose Enrique (on for Wisdom, 46 mins): A surprising omission initially, Enrique appeared at half-time as Rodgers chose to switch to a more orthodox flat back four. A welcome presence. 7/10
Fabio Borini (on for Shelvey, 77 mins): He was unlucky to hit the post with a fine effort on a live cameo appearance.
Conor Coady (on for Coutinho, 88 mins): Today was a brief, but deserved Premier League debut for the youngster.
