Arsenal Transfer News: Gunners Must Go All out to Land Stevan Jovetic

Patrick ClarkeMay 31, 2018

Arsenal is still far away from being considered a championship contender in the English Premier League and must add firepower this summer in order to reattain that status.

One of the key moves Arsene Wenger's Gunners must make is to bring Montenegrin striker Stevan Jovetic to Emirates. The 23-year-old forward has been linked to Arsenal and for good reason. Jovetic possesses loads of potential and has blossomed into a star with Italian club Fiorentina.

Here's the skinny from the Mirror's John Cross:

Montenegro striker Jovetic is also being chased by Juventus and it may take a £100,000-a-week contract to land the 23-year-old.

But if Arsenal secure Champions League football then they are in pole position, having recently opened talks with Fiorentina who are likely to sell this summer.

"

Jovetic leads Fiorentina with 12 goals in 31 appearances in all competitions for the club this season. He's also tallied four assists this year.

In addition to stellar production, Jovetic brings an unrivaled intensity and passion to the game. He plays with a spirit that Arsenal supporters would rally behind instantly, and that's before they see what he can do with the ball at his feet.

Jovetic plays a fearless, physical style and can operate on either side of the pitch as he's strong with both feet.

It's no surprise why Wenger is so high on him.

Considering the club has scored 12 fewer goals than Premier League champion Manchester United this season and only 24 in 18 away league matches, the £100,000-a-week would be money well spent.

In order to overtake a team with elite goal scorers like Robin van Persie (leads the Premier League this season with 25 goals) and Wayne Rooney (12 goals), Arsenal must accumulate elite striking talent of its own.

While Jovetic may not be a Premier League star just yet, he certainly has the potential to become the go-to scorer van Persie and Thierry Henry once were if he continues to work hard and play his relentless style of football.

That said, Wenger must pull out all the stops to acquire Montenegrin international this summer if Arsenal is going to contend with the likes of Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea for the English crown next season.

Next season, 2013-14 will mark the 10-year anniversary of Arsenal's last Premier League championship. And if that doesn't serve as a key reminder that it's time to spend in exchange for talent like Stevan Jovetic, then nothing will.
