As the Premier League season reaches it's climax, attention is already turning towards the summer and the pending deluge of transfer rumours sure to start permeating the world of football.

The process has already very much begun, and while it can be frustrating—the way some links seem to be conjured up from almost nothing—it also provides a great amount of humour for the majority of fans.

That said, there's certainly nothing to say any of the following far-fetched concepts won't come true. Most summers tend to bring a series of simply unpredictable transfers which make these rumour sections both essential and addictive viewing.

However, here are 10 recent stories taken from the past month that, at the moment, seem especially illogical.

Mario Gotze to Arsenal

We start with not so much an absurd story—as there may well have been substance in Arsenal's interest—but certainly a poorly-timed release.

Just a few days before Mario Gotze's summer move to Bayern Munich was revealed a few weeks ago, several outlets published stories about Arsenal allegedly lining up a record deal for the Borussia Dortmund youngster.

Regardless of how accurate the pieces were, it's something that certainly won't be happening now.

Gervinho to Galatasaray

Sticking with an Arsenal theme, this next one surely comes under the category of Lost in Translation.

While the rumour isn't especially astounding, given Gervinho's inconsistent spell at Arsenal, the fact the article quotes Galatasaray as willing to pay a whopping £12 million to get him is rather staggering.

Paying that much for the misfiring Ivorian would be an extremely daft decision, sure to delight most Arsenal fans.

John Terry to Turkey

This one screams of fantasy.

While John Terry may have slipped down the pecking order over the last few months at Chelsea, the idea of the former England captain swapping Stamford Bridge for either Galatasaray or Fenerbahce just doesn't feel at all logical.

He seems far more likely to remain at Chelsea, especially with the potential return of a certain Jose Mourinho.

Sam Byram to Everton

This is another story where the numbers and speculated fee ruin the overall prospect of the move ever coming off.

Not many people can see notoriously cash-strapped Everton spending £10 million on an unproven youngster in Sam Byram. Especially in a position where they have reasonable depth—with Seamus Coleman and Tony Hibbert—and have just splashed out £3 million on another young right-back in John Stones.

Chris Samba to Anzhi Makhachkala

Chris Samba has certainly not settled since returning to the Premier League.

However, QPR made a huge financial commitment to the Congolese international, spending £12 million for his services in a move an Anzhi director branded the West Londoners as "out of their minds" for completing.

Surely the Russian club will still be laughing at the ludicrous fee received, as opposed to irrationally coveting their former player again.

Aaron Ramsey to Cardiff

A typical method for constructing a vague transfer rumour seems to focus around finding similarities between the club and potential target.

Here, Aaron Ramsey's former side are back in the Premier League, which apparently makes him a prime target for the Welsh side. Of course, it ignores the fact that he's been producing some of his best football for Arsenal in recent months, surely making Arsene Wenger rather reluctant to release him.

Leon Osman to Tottenham

Every now and then a rumour comes along that seems to defy logic from all angles, and this is certainly one of them.

Spurs—equipped with an abundance of excellent central midfielders themselves—apparently want to spend £6 million on the almost 32-year-old Leon Osman?

As well as he's played this season, Everton would snatch off any hand that offered them that.

Raphael Varane to Manchester United

While he was unconvincing in the recent Champions League semifinals, most people familiar with Raphael Varane expect him to become one of the leading defenders in the game over the next decade or two.

The Frenchman is already an important member of Real Madrid's defence, so exactly how Manchester United could realistically prise him away from the Bernabeu will probably remain a mystery.

Asmir Begovic to Fulham

Sometimes a heavily sought after player, frequently associated with a multitude of clubs every week, gets randomly linked to a couple of odd potential suitors.

Asmir Begovic has long been connected with the very top clubs in England, so when he suddenly gets tipped for what would be a rather unspectacular sideways career move to Fulham, it appears a little peculiar.

Cristiano Ronaldo to Manchester United

Finally, every summer brings a few transfer sagas. Stories that get repeated over and over again throughout the summer but rarely ever transpire.

This year, Cristiano Ronaldo's future looks set to be a recurring topic of debate, with Manchester United and PSG allegedly circling over the superstar, despite the fact it seems almost certain he will remain at Real Madrid.
