Mayweather vs. Guerrero: Results and Reaction from Prize Fight

Floyd "Money" Mayweather returned to the ring in style, defeating Robert Guerrero by unanimous decision at the MGM Grand on Saturday.

All three judges scored the bout identically: 117-111 in Mayweather's favor. The eye test said it was just about that one-sided—maybe even more.

Mayweather's trademark elusiveness was on prime display in this one. After a year away from fighting, two months of which he spent in jail, speculation said the 36-year-old boxer might have lost a step. Guerrero did his part, coming out aggressive, throwing punches left and right. But Mayweather simply couldn't be hit.

When it was all said and done, Guerrero had connected on 19 percent of his punches according to CompuBox.

Guerrero was particularly energetic in the early rounds, which weren't as lopsided as the middle and later ones. But even then, he expended far too much energy on far too many punches that didn't land. With each unsuccessful hook he threw, Guerrero was that much more spent, with Mayweather no worse for the wear. And come the later rounds, that difference in stamina was crucial.

There weren't any knockdowns, and it wasn't the most exciting fight of all time, but it was a definitive statement from Money. Not only is he back, he's here to stay, and he doesn't plan on leaving any time soon.

Mayweather improves to 44-0 in his career and retains his WBC welterweight title. He also claims the Ring welterweight title that had been left vacant. Robert Guerrero, on the other hand, falls to 31-2-1.

Ghost said in a post-fight interview he'd like to fight Mayweather again at some point, but getting to the point will take some serious work on his part. Money's next opponent has yet to be decided, but he plans on fighting again this year.
