Mayweather vs. Guerrero Results: Full Recap of May's Elite Matchup
Floyd Mayweather ran his incredible career-long winning streak to 44 on Saturday night, defeating challenger Robert Guerrero via unanimous decision.
Guerrero promised to fight fearlessly against the longtime pound-for-pound king and it was evident he was prepared to back up his claims from the beginning. As most opponents of Mayweather find out, being fearless isn't enough to beat the champion.
Mayweather was successful in using his trademark defense to avoid taking too much damage in the early going. Despite Guerrero's best attempts to remain busy, Mayweather was too elusive.
As the fight approached the middle rounds, Mayweather began turning up the heat offensively. The weapon of the night was a stiff lead right hand that Mayweather landed with regularity.
With each passing round, Mayweather continued to show why he is considered the best boxer in the world, utilizing his defense to create openings and landing everything with precision.
As expected, Guerrero's toughness, chin and heart were on display. Although he failed to land his looping hooks consistently against Mayweather, he fought hard through plenty of powerful shots landed by the favorite.
The challenger's persistence paid off at times. As late as Round 9, Guerrero showed signs of life by landing shots in the clinch. But it was Mayweather that consistently got the better end of the exchanges thanks to his quick hands.
All things considered, it was just another day at the office for Money. He showed off the sublime skills that make him the most skilled technician in the sport and picked up yet another win. The zero in his career loss column was never in question and he showed that age isn't slowing him down anytime soon.
