Kentucky Derby Results: Where Each Horse Finished in 2013

Alex BallentineMay 4, 2013

The Kentucky Derby is always the most highly anticipated event on the horse racing calendar, and the 2013 edition didn't fail to disappoint—race favorite Orb made a breathtaking comeback to take first place.

The favorite taking the Roses at Churchill Downs was far from predictable; it was only the fifth time in the last 25 years that the race favorite actually picked up the win.

Golden Soul and Revolutionary rounded out the top three positions with solid showings from the fourth and third posts, respectively.

Orb's incredible surge was the kind of performance that is sure to generate some Triple Crown buzz. His ability to finish strong on a less-than-ideal track shows the kind of strength and closing burst he has.

Goldencents and Verrazano were among the most disappointing performances in the field. Both horses were expected to be serious contenders and trendy picks to win, but failed to even place in the top 10.

Golden Soul was among the best values on the track as he was considered a long shot and managed to pick up the top-three finish.

With the Derby now officially over, focus will now shift to the Preakness and whether or not Orb can pick up the second leg of the Triple Crown in two weeks' time.
