Kentucky Derby Results: Payout and Triple Crown Odds for Orb
After a muddy and exciting 139th running of the Kentucky Derby, Orb took the glory and victory after a thrilling late surge past a crowded flock of leaders.
It's not exactly a surprise that Orb took home the Run for the Roses, as Saturday's morning line boasted him as the favorite with 5-1 odds when the gates opened. But the way he came down the stretch and passed nearly the whole field late was nothing short of incredible.
Coming out of the 16th gate, jockey Joel Rosario and trainer Claude "Shug" McGaughey III knew their horse wouldn't be leading early on, and it would take some late magic to reach the winner's circle.
That's exactly how it played out. Coming around the final stretch, Orb was stuck back in 14th place before reaching the outside and blistering past his opponents with a scintillating run.
Even after such an epic victory, Orb's work has only begun. Now begins the extensive talk of a Triple Crown and how much of a chance this thoroughbred has of becoming the first Triple Crown winner since 1978.

Triple Crown Odds
With the immediacy of the race, it's far too early for the experts to weigh in on Orb's chances of becoming the first Triple Crown winner in more than 30 years. But given his odds to win the Run for the Roses and his performance, there's enough information to figure out a rough estimate.
As well as Orb ran down the stretch, winning horse racing's three biggest races in a row is no simple task. But he came into Churchill Downs with 5-1 odds for a reason, and that hype will follow him to the Preakness and Belmont Stakes.
Right now, I'm expecting Orb to have about 15-1 odds of winning the elusive Triple Crown. But only time will tell as the bettors and experts continue to weigh in.
