Mayweather vs. Guerrero Odds: Where Vegas Betting Line Stands on Fight Day

Jesse ReedJun 8, 2018

To nobody's surprise, Floyd Mayweather is the heavy betting favorite in his upcoming fight against Robert Guerrero on Saturday night at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nev.

The undefeated welterweight champion is considered by most to be the best pound-for-pound boxer in the world, and nobody expects him to lose to Guerrero. According to ESPN's Dan Rafael, Mayweather will earn $32 million guaranteed for this fight:

He's the biggest star in boxing right now, and even though Guerrero is also an accomplished fighter, there aren't many people who expect him to beat Money May, including Vegas.

Here's the latest betting line for both fighters, courtesy of Bovada.com:

  • Floyd Mayweather: -650
  • Robert Guerrero: +425

As far as the betting is concerned, every dollar bet on The Ghost would yield $4.25. Conversely, you'd have to bet $6.25 just to earn a dollar on the Mayweather side.

The thought process behind these betting lines is that Mayweather simply won't lose.

That said, it's been roughly a year since Mayweather's last fight, and he's only fought four times since coming out of his two-and-a-half-year retirement.

With 43 professional fights under his belt and at the age of 36, Money May is bound to lose at some point in his career, but Vegas is betting on Mayweather's continued dominance.

If Guerrero were to win, his victory would be an upset of mammoth proportions—both from Vegas' perspective and from a pure boxing perspective.

Mayweather's 43-straight victories speak to his ability to overcome a wide array of competition. His last fight against Miguel Cotto was proof of his ability to defeat an adversary determined to pound him into the mat.

Money's ability to counterpunch is one of his greatest assets. He was able to turn Cotto's aggression against him and will attempt to do the same thing to Guerrero on Saturday night.

This upcoming fight will likely go the distance, as both fighters have a proven track record of being able to take big punches as well as dish them out. Both men bring plenty of experience, skill and confidence into the ring on Saturday night, but only one will come away victorious.

Who will it be?
