The Pick to Win It All
Louisville Cardinals men's basketball coach Rick Pitino is going for his second major win in less than one month. Pitino coached his Cardinals to an NCAA championship victory in April and will now cheer on his horse, Goldencents, on Saturday.
Fort Worth Star-Telegram's Jimmy Burch dives into the historical importance of a potential Pitino-Goldencents victory:
Starting from the eighth slot, Goldencents is in fantastic position to run away with a victory. This is one of the most dominant horses in the field. It's safe to assume that most sports fans will be rooting for this horse due to its connection to a familiar face. Well, Michigan fans may choose to cheer for the field on this one...
For casual fans tuning in just to see the spectacle that is the 139th edition of the Derby, it only makes sense for them to cheer on Pitino's horse. Add in the fact that Goldencents actually has a legitimate shot to claim the triple crown should he be victorious today and this has the potential to be one of the greatest sports stories of the year. It all stars today at 6:24 p.m. ET.
Perhaps the bigger question should be, "If Goldencents wins, will Pitino pony up for another tattoo?"
