Kentucky Derby Odds: High-Reward Horses You Can Bank on

With the Kentucky Derby just over a day away, there are plenty of horses in the field that are all but sure things to bet on. 

The two current favorites according to the odds put out by Yahoo are Verrazano and Orb, both at 4-to-1 odds and at the 14th and 16th posts, respectively. 

When you go to place your bets, here are the horses you can bank on. 

Verrazano

Sired by More Than Ready, which finished fourth in the 2000 Kentucky Derby and won six races in its career, Verrazano is probably the safest bet you can make at the 2012 Derby. 

Verrazano is already having a terrific year in 2013. He has four wins, including the Wood Memorial. 

He'll also be riden by the jockey who won the 2011 Kentucky Derby on board Animal Kingdom. John Velazquez is an experienced jockey, and although he is recovering from an injury, he still has enough of an impressive resume to make Verrazano an attractive choice. 

At the end of the day, Verrazano has terrific pedigree, has great size and is having success in 2013. That makes him the hardened favorite in this race. 

Orb

This horse may have the best pedigree in the entire field. Orb was sired by Malibu Moon and Lady Liberty. Malibu Moon is a third-generation descendant of Secretariat, one of the most legendary horses of all-time. Lady Liberty was sired by Unbridled, who won the 1990 Kentucky Derby and Breeder's Cup Classic. 

The co-favorite along with Verrazano, Orb is a fine choice for bettors in this Derby. Orb has won three straight races coming into Saturday, including the Florida Derby. 

Orb's jockey, like Verrazano's, is also very talented. Joel Rosario is one of the best jockeys in the business and will give Orb a terrific chance on Saturday. 

Itsmyluckyday

Another distant descendant of Secretariat, Itsmyluckyday has been quietly one of the best horses going into the field on Saturday. 

Currently at 12-1 odds to win the race from the 12th post position, Itsmyluckyday was sired by Lawyer Ron, the pre-race favorite for the 2006 Kentucky Derby.  

In 2013, Itsmyluckyday has been pretty good. At the Florida Derby, he was the projected favorite but finished second to Orb. 

Conversations about who will win on Saturday have been primarily focused on Verrazano and Orb, and for good reason. But Itsmyluckyday has great attributes as well, and he could just surprise a few people on Saturday.
