Kentucky Derby Live Stream: Complete Guide to Watching the Race Online

Steven CookJun 8, 2018

The biggest weekend in horse racing is finally here, as the 139th Kentucky Derby is set to once again defy the already monumental hype surrounding Churchill Downs.

As Saturday evening inches nearer, it's become increasingly important to work your Derby viewing around whatever plans you have for the time period.

Though you can catch the actual television coverage of the entire pre-race festivities and race on NBC, nobody has forgotten those of you who won't have the convenience of being around a TV when the horses take off out of the gates. With an Internet connection, you'll be able to join Bob Costas and the gang just like everyone else watching from home.

Favorites to Watch For

Orb: 7-2

There's no doubting that Orb is the hottest name in betting heading into the big day, entering Wednesday's morning line with a 7-2 ratio of victory.

Earlier this racing season, it seemed Itsmyluckyday would be an odds-on favorite for the "Run for the Roses", but after Orb took the Florida Derby over the then 7-5 favorite, it seemed there was a new favorite in town.

Perhaps bettors and oddsmakers are looking a bit too much into these two horses' performances at the Florida Derby, but it's interesting to say the least that Orb has become such a heavy favorite at this event.

Trainer Shug McGaughey is running Orb in this race despite him being a three-year-old, which speaks volumes about the capabilities of this horse.

Verrazano: 4-1

Another contender likely taking offense to the latest morning line has got to be Verrazano.

Despite being just one of five horses in the field for trainer Todd Pletcher, Verrazano has a great chance of galloping to victory. He's also jockeyed by John Velazquez, a legendary jockey who has ridden multiple Triple Crown race winners.

It also doesn't hurt that Verrazano comes into the race never having been defeated, something an awfully small number of contenders do each year. In fact, a Verrazano victory would mark the eighth time ever that an unbeaten horse has won the Kentucky Derby.

Perhaps it's the smartest bet to put your money on both Orb and Verrazano. The two combined have better than 2-1 odds of winning.

Goldencents: 5-1

This is all you need to know about Goldencents: his trainer's recent history and a certain good luck charm on his side.

First off, trainer Doug O'Neill is going for what would be a remarkable repeat at Churchill Downs. Last year as you may recall, he took I'll Have Another to victory and nearly a Triple Crown before being retired a day before the Belmont Stakes.

It also doesn't hurt that he has Louisville basketball coach Rick Pitino as a minority owner. Pitino's Cardinals won the 2013 NCAA tournament in epic fashion and he's hoping to bring some of his hometown team's magic onto the race track.
