Cleveland Browns Draft Grade

Aaron ConklinApr 26, 2009

Let me start off by saying this about the Cleveland Browns: they are off to a very positive outcome after this draft.

With the Browns moving back three times to collect more draft picks is genius.  We needed to do this.  No thanks to Savage we had very little to work with going into this year.  So with that said Browns' fans we need to get behind Mangini and Kokinis.

Round 1:Alex Mack  Grade: A-

Probably not the pick that the fans wanted, but he is going to give us stability at a position that are offense needs.  Fraley is getting older still a solid center in the league.  Good choice to pick Mack regarded as the top center in the draft and also in the last ten years or so.

Round 2: Brian Robiskie, Mohamed Massaquoi, David Veikune  Grade: B+

This round was the round that I did not expect from the browns.  I am though very excited about the picks.  All three have a unique skill set that Browns can use with this upcoming season.  Also they have the talent to be a very vital part of our team for many years to come.

Round 4: Kaluka Maiava  Grade: B

I know a lot of fans are going to think I am crazy when I say this, but Kaluka has the skill set to become the best pick of the Browns draft.

He has explosion off the ball that a 3-4 team covets.  He was coached by a linebackers coach that in his hay day was one of the best in the NFL (Ken Norton Jr,) and possibly be one of the top 25 linebackers of all-time.  That is key when picking linebackers in a draft.

Round 6: Don Carey, Coye Francies, James Davis  Grade: C

This was the the round where the Browns picked players that were going to build depth around.  They also can be very good special teamers.

I also feel as if James Davis could be solid in the running game in a few years.  No one can take away from his production at Clemson where he just so happened to be behind a potential top 15 pick in the 2010 draft in C.J. Spiller.

Davis is going to be able to learn from a guy in Jamal Lewis how to work hard, be a good player in the locker room, and a leader for the future.

Overall Grade: B

Every fan should be happy with the draft the Browns produced this year.

We are going in the right direction and we have a slue of veteran players on our team to take the rookies into the future.

I am going to end this and say I cannot wait for the season to start.

GO BROWNS!
