NFL Draft Grades 2013: Full Evaluations for Every Organization

The future of a franchise is at stake during the NFL draft.

It's a fascinating investment risk as well, because teams are expecting immediate dividends on players with obviously zero professional experience. Sure the Senior Bowl, East-West Shrine Game, combine and pro days provide a small sense of the NFL atmosphere, but the big stage will unveil full transparency.

This is also why we have seen plenty of top-talented athletes fail to live up to pro football's expectations. On the contrary, it's not surprising when a late-round selection or undrafted free agent makes a quick impact.

That's simply the enigma of the draft process, which is also why every selection matters. So, just because a team landed a key prospect in Round 1 doesn't mean it received an A-grade. How each fared throughout all of late April is below, along with a few highlighted teams that impressed.

Baltimore Ravens

Given all of Baltimore's offseason departures, the Ravens really helped themselves during the draft.

Florida safety Matt Elam was a huge get at the end of Round 1. As a true playmaker with a nose for the ball, Elam defended 18 passes the previous two seasons and collected 22 tackles for loss.

Baltimore immediately complemented him with Arthur Brown from Kansas State. Brown is just as reliable when it comes to locating the ball, as evidenced by his 201 tackles and nine defended passes between 2011 and 2012.

Thereafter, the Ravens made other strong selections in Wisconsin tackle Ricky Wagner, Notre Dame defensive end Kapron Lewis-Moore (six sacks, two forced fumbles in 2012) and California corner Marc Anthony (26 career defended passes).

Baltimore is still in a brief replenishing period, though. Not only will it be difficult relying on multiple rookies, but the Ravens will also get every opponent's A-game after winning Super Bowl XLVII. Nevertheless, expect coach John Harbaugh's team to enter 2013 as the AFC North favorites.

Atlanta Falcons

The Falcons had to address the defensive side of the ball to remain Super Bowl contenders.

Fortunately for Atlanta, adding cornerbacks Desmond Trufant and Robert Alford brings top-talented depth to its secondary. The Dirty Birds also helped the spruced-up pass defense with sound pass-rushers in Clemson's Malliciah Goodman and TCU's Stansly Maponga.

Improved coverage in the secondary will allow these guys more time to apply pressure, which obviously increases their production.

In college, each produced well. Goodman forced eight fumbles and racked up 17 tackles for loss from 2010 through 2012. As for Maponga, he too created eight fumbles and accounted for 23 tackles for loss in three seasons.

The Falcons later snagged a gem in Central Florida safety Kemal Ishmael. During his tenure for the Knights, Ishmael recorded 368 tackles, defended 19 passes and forced six fumbles. Ultimately, Atlanta is building a more aggressive defense to control the line and generate turnovers.

Seattle Seahawks

Even though the Seahawks didn't have a Round 1 selection, Seattle made some impressive draft picks.

Two underrated selections occurred along the defensive line. In Round 3, Seattle grabbed Penn State's Jordan Hill and then Alabama's Jesse Williams in Round 5. Hill amassed 16.5 tackles for loss and eight sacks in two seasons, whereas Williams recorded 61 tackles.

Obviously Hill is the better statistical defender here, which will be a competitive advantage on third down and inside the red zone. Williams, on the other hand, is a force at eating blocks and flushing the quarterback out of the pocket.

Each will contribute to the rotation and offer great depth to Seattle's front wall.

Other solid selections include running back Christine Michael (change of pace), receiver Chris Harper (capable deep threat) and corner Tharold Simon (nickel/dime back playmaker).
