Why Offensive Tackle, Michael Oher, Is Now Flacco's New Best Friend
The NFL Draft has had an exciting beginning here at Radio City Music Hall. A lot of surprises; whether Michael Crabtree dropping to 10, or the Jets trading up to No. 5 to get Mark Sanchez, there have been some great selections in this draft.
The Baltimore Ravens, sitting at the 26th pick, traded up to the 23rd pick, owned by the New England Patriots.
With Brandon Pettigrew being off the board at that time, it did look like Ray Maualuga or Kenny Britt were going to be selected.
However, the Ravens, selected Michael Oher, the Offensive Tackle from Ole Miss.
This was a very solid pick for the Ravens, a team that has always had a successful front office ran by Ozzie Newsom , as well as a good hearted coach in John Harbaugh.
We all know the heart-warming story about Michael Oher. Yet, the Ravens do get a keeper here with Oher.
His stock began to rise during and after his combine workout. He was rated the fourth best tackle in a what was a strong class this year.
Predicted by some to go in the top 10, or no later than the 13th overall pick by the Redskins, it will be hoped that Michael will contribute to this young and improving offensive line.
Michael has great knowledge of the game, and just looking at the interview after he got selected, his good attitude and work ethic fit in with this offense.
I am sure by now he has been reached out by his new quarterback Joe Flacco, who is sitting pretty right now.
You can argue that the Ravens did not make it to the Superbowl last year due to the performance of this offensive line, who could not handle the Steelers' blitzes.
We have been wondering who would be the steady future tackle to replace Jonathan Odgen. Baltimore has found their man, who they believe will make an impact next season, and beyond.
Baltimore has finally decided that it is time to build the franchise around Joe Flacco, to have more improvements in his game than he did have in his rookie season. Bringing Oher to the line is a plus for Flacco, who I'm sure is happy to have a new best friend alongside protecting him.
