Seahawks Fourth Overall Pick Grade: OLB Aaron Curry A+

Lars HansonApr 25, 2009

The draft can do a lot of weird things. We all knew Matt Stafford was going to Detroit. A lot of people had Baylor OT Jason Smith going to the St Louis Rams, and he did. Now the third overall pick, held by the Kansas City Chiefs was between LB Aaron Curry and DE Tyson Jackson.

You would have though that the best player in the draft would be a better pick that Tyson Jackson but that’s not the case. The Chiefs took DE Tyson Jackson third overall and passed on Curry and Crabtree among others.

This is any Seattle Seahawks fan or front office dream. The best player in the Draft, LB Aaron Curry is still available at four. They were rumored to like Sanchez, Crabtree, and OT Eugene Monroe but they decided they needed an OLB to replace Julian Peterson and add with Lofa Tatupu and Leroy Hill so they took OLB Aaron Curry. The grade for this pick is an easy A +.

If you look at the Seattle Seahawks defense, they spent a lot of work on the defensive line by acquiring DT Colin Cole in free agency, trading for DT Cory Redding and they still have DT Brandon Mebane, DE Patrick Kerney and DE Darryl Tapp. Now they need the final piece to the great defense. That piece is Aaron Curry. He had 101 tackles in his senior year. 320 tackles overall in four years at Wake Forrest.

The Seahawks, by adding Curry, now have one of the best front seven in the NFL. Here is a list of names on the Seattle Seahawks defense. Lofa Tatupu (3 time pro-bowler), RE Patrick Kerney (14.5 sacks in his first year in Seattle), Leroy Hill (Seahawks franchise player aka the Seahawks franchise tagged him this off-season), Marcus Trufant (one of the top CB’s in the NFL), Brandon Mebane (underrated, young, talented DT). Honorable mention DT Colin Cole, Deon Grant and Josh Wilson.

So Seattle gets their man, LB Aaron Curry, the best player in the NFL draft. He will fit great with Jim Mora Jr and Gus Bradley’s aggressive defense.

NOTE: This pick shows that Hasselbeck is 200% healthy, yes I actually mean 200%. IF they had the slightest of doubt in Hasselbeck they would have took Mark Sanchez. This pick has to be one of the best in Tim Ruskell’s career and now his head is not on the chopping block from a Seahawks fans point of view.
