Sheldon Richardson: How Will Jets' Newest DT Fare in the Pros?

Matt SteinJun 5, 2018

With their second pick in the first round, the New York Jets drafted defensive tackle Sheldon Richardson with the 13th pick of the 2013 NFL draft. It was the Jets' second-straight pick addressing the defensive side of the ball.

Pro Outlook

Richardson is incredible nimble and quick for a player of his size. At 6'2" and 294 pounds, Richardson shouldn't be able to move like he does. He's got good athleticism and the versatility to play a number of positions along the defensive line.

His quickness allows him to create pressure up the middle for a defense. However, he'll need to improve his overall strength in order to make an impact in the NFL.

Fantasy Outlook

Much like Dee Milliner, Richardson will only help to improve one of the better fantasy football defenses in the league. He'll bring sacks and the ability to create turnovers for the Jets.

Roster Outlook

Richardson could play a handful of positions for New York, and it wouldn't be surprising to see him move across the defensive line. Look for him to line up at defensive end and defensive tackle for the Jets' 3-4 defense.

Pick Analysis

While the Jets' do have needs on offense, they didn't address them with either of their first two picks in the first round. However, Richardson will help boost an already young and talented defense to hopefully get back to where it was a few years ago.

Grade: B+
