War Room Vibe 2.0: Cleveland Browns
That Sanchez to Cleveland notion doesn't sound so crazy now.
Folks it's simple. There is value in overall production on tape. Mock draft's have the USC QB going to Seattle. Oh really...the recent reports of Crabtree's "diva demeanor" concern me with Mangini's approach coupled with Edwards' soap opera. Make no mistake, if Mark Sanchez falls to five he will be a Cleveland Brown. He may not be a Brown for no longer than five minutes, but we aren't going to go there.
Vibe:
Kokinis wants Crabtree, Mangini wants to trade out of the five spot for more picks.
The Browns' draft philosophy entails the best player per position based on overall team evaluation.
So for example, if Sanchez and Crabtree are available, Sanchez would be the pick based on the teams current roster status. Cleveland already has a stud WR but not a stud QB.
The Concern:
When compared to Pittsburgh and Baltimore, Cleveland is leap years behind in personnel development. There is no sign of any return on investment since the days of Kosar's supplemental draft selection.
Cleveland's defense comprises of Shaun Rodgers and D'quell Jackson. Sure there are other parts, but the two are the only consistent performers. The Brown's have to find a "Boogie Man," the guy that strikes fear and terror. Fans and coaches cringe when Pittsburgh and Baltimore pull the bus around the corner of West 9th street.
Rock, Papers, & Scissors:
Who's call is it? There is an obvious disagreement but by no means a rift. Kokinis has a little "River Boat Gambler" in him, which is good. Mangini wants balance and power, the old "Tree Concept" to potentially form a long tenured formidable ball club.
The Pick:
Based on the infinite scenarios that could play out, take your pick?
QB Mark Sanchez-USC
DE Tyson Jackson-LSU
WR Michael Crabtree-Texas Tech
LB Aaron Curry-Wake Forest
OT Jason Smith-Baylor
Trade down for multiple players/picks
