Jason Campbell A Seahawk

NFL News And RumorsApr 24, 2009

The NFL Draft is roughly 36 hours away, and there is sure to be a flurry of rumors, lies, and deceit floating around until the clock begins with the 0-16 Detroit Lions.

A recent trade has shaken up the bottom of the draft, the Falcons just got a lot scarier on offense, scoring All Pro TE Tony Gonzalez for a 2nd round pick they won’t even feel the prick of losing until 2010.

This trade allows the Falcons to focus on defense, which by all means should be their top priority, letting all sorts of pieces walk away this off-season.

Perhaps the most intriguing prospect is not even the top rated at his position.

That would be one-year wonder USC QB Mark Sanchez. The second rated QB behind expected first overall pick Matthew Stafford, who is currently in contract talks to become the possible franchise QB for Detroit (have fun staying upright).

Plenty of teams who draft out of the top ten want him, Denver, Washington, NYJ’s, to name a few, have all have expressed an interest to move up to snag him as high as trading with the Seattle Seahawks at No. 4.

If Detroit fails to come to terms with Stafford, a trade to Seattle could be a strong possibility with some additional teams wanting to pounce on Stafford in addition to having a crack at Sanchez.

The team that makes the most sense to trade up is the Denver Broncos, who hold the No. 12, and 18 picks after dealing Cutler for a plethora of picks from the Bears (they ripped them off!).

It would probably take both picks to snag Sanchez away from Seattle, maybe something additional depending on how the teams trade charts work out.

Another possible trade could be with the Oakland Raiders at No. 7 to jump ahead of Jacksonville, No. 9 to jump ahead of the 49ers.

The Redskins always overpay for what they want, that’s just the straightforward truth. This makes them an appealing trade partner because they would be willing to give up a lot to get what they believe to be a franchise QB in Sanchez.

They hold the No. 13 pick, and would love to land Sanchez; they could secure him with a trade to No. 4, (I don’t see the Rams or Chiefs going for him.)

They don’t have the high picks as the Broncos, but offer something that could entice Seattle to pull the trigger on a trade.

QB Jason Campbell.

It seems unlikely the Redskins would keep Campbell if they select Sanchez, who they would most likely need to trade to acquire. Therefore they are most likely to deal him regardless if it’s in a trade to move up or in a separate deal.

If Seattle wants a QB for the future, a trade with Washington makes sense; they would at least be getting a proven product that has very solid stats, in addition to a nice haul of picks, their QB itch would be scratched.

They would not have to pay him 12 million+ a year like they would a Sanchez, and could even sit him for a few years.

They would get additional picks, allowing them not only to scratch their itch for a QB, but select the best available player, and they would get a better value, a guy like RB Knowshon Moreno could be a sleeper steal here.

They would most likely get the No. 13 pick, a 1st rounder next year, and Campbell to start, and knowing Daniel Snyder, could possibly get even more.

The No. 37 pick the Seahawks own is also a hot commodity from what Tim Ruskell has been saying. Picking up an additional 2nd or third rounder from the Redskins, could even allow them to move back into the first round if desired (unlikely).

I have a strong feeling that the smokescreen Seattle is throwing up with its apparent love affair with the Trojan Gunslinger will leave them with options to trade down.

In this draft that seems to be a smart move, at least from Seattle’s perspective as far as needs are concerned.

Daniel Synder has thrown away millions to get what he wants, he wants a new franchise QB, he wants to rid himself of Campbell, and in a trade with Seattle, both teams would get what they want

Seattle fans, lets hope this lovable buffoon pulls the trigger and lets Seattle steal the draft as we prepare to take back our division.

Washington fans, just hope to god this does not happen, I will be thrilled, but will pity you.
