FSU Football Season Preview 2009

JT FletcherApr 23, 2009

Well, spring practice is over and the Spring Game has been played!

We have only four months and 13 days until FSU kicks off the season with Miami, FL at Doak Campbell Stadium, so I thought it might be time for a few way too early preseason predictions. I have put all my predictions in percentages; I usually don’t like to pick scores until the week before each game!

There is a lot of excitement in and around Tallahassee after last year’s 9-4 season knowing how close 3-4 losses were! This year we have the potential to be a GREAT football team and I believe we will!

Sep. 7, Labor Day - Miami

We should win this game mostly because Miami will have never played a game with their new coaches, but also because we should be the better team and have home field advantage.

Miami will be still settling in and last year’s first quarter before the rain showed a lot for Noles. FSU rolls in this game!  80 percent.

Sep. 12 - JSU

Alright this should be a given, HOPEFULLY!  FSU wins by 30 or more. 100 percent.

Sep. 19 - BYU

This game will be tough because of the altitude and BYU is not a bad team. This is also BYU’s home opener after opening the season against OU at the Dallas Cowboys' new stadium and then at Tulane.

I do believe that we should pull it off! It will be tougher on BYU because of their two games before this. FSU wins! 75 percent.

Sep. 26 - USF

FSU has nothing to win in this game really, but everything to lose. If we win, it is because we should. If we lose, well we should not! I think we should win this, but only if we are not over confident. Should be an interesting game all in all! 85 percent.

Oct. 3 - BC

BC will be going through a tough time this year with Spaziani now being the head coach and the switching up of everything. This should be a good game all in all and once again we should win up in Boston. 85 percent.

Oct. 10 - GT

OK, now for the rematch of “the FUMBLE.” This game will be tricky! It is at Doak this year though and I think that will make all the difference. This year we should have a bit better feel for the option, but it is probably still going to give us fits. There is just no way around that until you have played it for a few years, and even then it is still difficult!

The key to this game will be to jump on them fast and hard and never let up. This is probably going to be a high scoring affair until the fourth quarter. Then I think FSU will take control and win. And after last year, what a sweet win it will be! 70 percent.

Oct. 22, Thursday Night - UNC

I did not watch much of the Tarheels this last year. Mostly because they didn't mean anything to me because we didn't play them. However, this is going to be a really hard game, mainly because it is on a Thursday night and away.

If you have not watched FSU play on Thursday nights in the past, believe me last year was more the exception than the rule, and we still played to a sloppy win!

We hardly ever win on Thursday, so until I see our team this year I am going with...50/50. This is just a hard one for me to say at this point. 50 percent.

Oct. 31, Halloween - NC St.

Personally, NCST might be the dark horse in the Atlantic side this year IF they can stay healthy. I think this will be our Black Out game considering the date of Halloween, and as long as no one gets in trouble before the game it will be OK. It has nothing to do with the jerseys!

I think this one will be very close if NC ST. is healthy, but because it’s at home it should be a W! 80 percent.

Nov. 7 - Clemson

We all know how this game has been the last couple of years, so until I see Clemson play this upcoming season all I can go on is what we did last year and what players they lost. I think it will be a tough game because of it being in Clemson, but in the end it will be a W! 70 percent.

Nov. 14 - Wake Forest

I think that Wake is not going to be very good next year because they lost a lot of people and their kicker, who was a huge advantage to them. Yes I know we lost Gano as well.

So I think we will have no trouble snapping our losing streak to the Flipping Demon Deacons, even up in Salem! 95 percent.

Nov. 21 - Maryland

They lost 30 seniors last year. Game is in Tally so…yeah enough said! 95 percent.

Nov. 28 - UF

Considering the factors of last year’s game; RAIN, RAIN, and MORE RAIN! If it had not been for that, this game would have been a hell of a lot closer! But we are not talking about last year so...

It is in the Swamp and they still have Tebow, which we all know is their team. Lose him and they SUCK, but fact is he is still there! I don't think it will be another blow out, unless it rains. I even believe FSU could win and pull of the major upset, depending on how bad our team would like to beat Tebow in the Swamp in his senior year.

But we have to be 100 percent ready and play to win in all four quarters! It would be wonderful, wouldn't it? But as it stands right now, not seeing how we have played yet this season, all I can give in confidence is...30 percent.

(Most people would say that is pushing it)

One more thing I would like to say about the Gators is look at their FLIPPING schedule and see how easy it is. Three not total no names, but pretty much guaranteed wins! Way to take the easy way out Urban Crier! Troy, Charleston Southern, and FIU! COME ON!

Hope you like my little rant! If you did then I will hopefully be writing more in the future! GO NOLES!!!!!
