DeVonte Christopher: Video Highlights for Former Utah WR

Jun 7, 2018

Utah wide receiver DeVonte Christopher has been something of a jack of all trades during his football career.

The youngster began as a highly touted high school quarterback in the state of Nevada, becoming the first player in state history to top 30 touchdown passes in a season.

On arriving in Salt Lake City, Wilson made the switch to wide receiver, and not only did the 6'1", 200-pounder rack up over 1,600 career receiving yards, but Wilson also established himself as a threat in the return game.

Let's take a look at some of Christopher's highlights with the Utes.

Amazing Hands: vs. Brigham Young (2010)

1 of 5

Christopher barely played his freshman year, but by his sophomore season, he was ready for a much larger role in the Utah offense.

He was the Utes' leading receiver with 660 yards in 2010, but none of his catches were bigger than this remarkable touchdown grab against archrival BYU, where Christopher shows great hands and concentration while tipping the ball to himself.

Deceptive Speed: vs. Arizona (2011)

2 of 5

If there's a knock on Christopher, it's that he doesn't possess exceptional "straight-line" speed.

Try telling that to the Arizona Wildcats, because Christopher's speed probably looked just fine to them back in 2011.

Granted, this play reeks of a broken coverage, but that doesn't change the fact that he hauls in the pass in stride and races 65 yards for a Utah touchdown.

Leaping Ability: vs. Pitt (2010)

3 of 5

Sure, Christopher may not be the fastest of prospects, but he compensates for that relative lack of speed in other ways.

Not only does he have the size that NFL scouts covet in a wide receiver, but he's a physical wideout more than capable of fighting defenders for the ball.

Christopher does just that in this highlight from Utah's overtime victory against Pitt in 2010, leaping high to snare a long pass.

Getting Open Deep: vs. Washington (2011)

4 of 5

There wasn't a whole lot to like about Utah's 31-14 loss to Washington in 2011, but if there was a bright spot in that loss, it was the play of Christopher.

He made five catches for 125 yards in that game, and while Christopher was caught from behind on this long pass play, it still demonstrates his ability to hurt opponents over the top.

Working the Middle: vs. USC (2011)

5 of 5

Given Christopher's lack of top-flight speed, there's a good chance that his NFL future lies in the slot, where he can use his physicality to work the middle of the field.

That ability to run routes over the middle was in evidence in a September 2011 loss to Southern Cal.

Christopher reeled in 11 catches for well over 100 yards in that contest, including this touchdown grab on a crossing route just before halftime.
