Leon McFadden: 5 Things You Need to Know About the San Diego State CB

0 of 5

When you think of San Diego State, you might think of beaches, fish tacos and the zoo before you think of any NFL prospects.

In case you didn't know, Marshall Faulk came from the Southern California school.

Leon McFadden hopes to make his mark on the NFL. The incoming rookie cornerback is less-heralded than some of his counterparts, but he could wind up being one of the best of the bunch.

Collegiate Stats

A four-year starter, Leon McFadden had a nice career.

He had decent tackle totals despite his size and positions. He wasn't a huge ball hawk, but eight career interceptions is nothing to sneeze at.

McFadden was also able to contribute on special teams, but only returned two handfuls of punts throughout his career.

A Strong Pedigree

Leon McFadden Sr. imbued his son with special talent.

The elder McFadden was a nine-year professional baseball player, playing outfield and shortstop with the Houston Astros for four of those years.

Junior McFadden was actually a receiver heading into his college career, but a last-minute switch saw him learning the cornerback position fast.

As you have seen, McFadden is one of the underrated players in the draft. He has a quiet following on Twitter, however. Here are some observations from the Twitterverse.

Don't get why Leon McFadden gets a 3-4 round grade. To me, he's the fourth best corner. Early second is perfect spot for him,

B.W. Webb, Leon McFadden, and Tyrann Mathieu all could be fits for the #Rams in the 3rd-4th Rd for corner depth w/upside. #NFLDraft32in32

Just me or is Leon McFadden not getting enough attention? I think he's a solid CB.

I see what others were raving about with SanDiegoSt CB Leon McFadden today. Physical across route tree, times breaks/jumps very well.
