Boston Marathon 2013 Results: Men's and Women's Top Finishers

Tragedy has struck at the Boston Marathon following the end of the race.

The Boston Marathon saw Ethiopia's Lelisa Desisaย outrace Micah Kogo of Kenyaย and Gebregziabher Gebremariam of Ethiopiaย to win Monday's famous race.ย The top three men were separated by just six seconds.

The United States men gave a solid showing, asย Jason Hartmann replicated last year's fourth-place finish, whileย Daniel Tapia finished ninth andย Craig Leon took 10th. Last year's winner,ย Wesley Korir of Kenya, finished in fifth.

On the women's side, Kenya'sย Ritaย Jeptoo won her second Boston Marathon on Monday in a time ofย 2:26:25, winning by 33 seconds over second-place finisherย Meseret Hailu of Ethiopia.

Jeptoo celebrated with her trophy after the race (via Paula Ebben of CBS Boston):

The United States was well represented at the top of the pack, asย Shalane Flanagan finished in fourth andย Kara Goucher came in sixth. Here'sย Flanagan at the finish, via Lisa Hughes of WBZ TV:

Last year's winner,ย Sharon Cherop of Kenya, finished in third, whileย Tirfi Tsegaye of Ethiopia rounded out the top five.

Tatiana McFaddenย of the United States won the women's wheelchair race, whileย Hiroyuki Yamamoto of Japan won the event for the men.

This year's event featured far more favorable weather than last year's smoldering-hot conditions, as the Boston Marathon Twitter account noted:
