Cubs-Reds: Cubs Win Unfettered by Rogue Tabby and Interfering Fan

Mj OctiganApr 22, 2009

The Chicago Cubs got a big win Tuesday night against the Cincinnati Reds, but it wouldn't be a Cubs game without an old tabby and an annoying fan.

Even though the Cubs went through five pitchers, their bats were the deciding factor in a key win.

Rich Harden would start the Cubs pitching with six strong innings. Harden only gave up three hits and two runs. His heater was also on, striking out eight batters.

Aaron Heilman followed Harden with an inning, striking out one batter. Neal Cotts, Carlos Marmol, and Luis Vizcaino combined for four strikeouts and six hits through the final three innings.

Old history and bad luck would show up at Wrigley once again, though.

In the fourth inning, an old black and white tabby ran onto the field. It reminded us all of the black cat that crossed Ron Santo's path in 1969 at Shea Stadium, a playoff series the Cubs eventually lost.

Later in Tuesday's game, an annoying fan tried to catch a ball in the stands, similar to the Bartman incident in 2003. It was even in the exact same spot.

Despite the mysterious happenings, the Cubs' bats were still on fire.

Aramis Ramirez sparked the Cubs' offense, going 3-for-5 with three RBI and contributing to the big lead. He also struck out once.

Micah Hoffpauir was also a key factor in the Cubs' win. Hoffpauir went 1-for-1, driving in two runs and walking once.

Despite the old bad luck symbols showing up again, the Cubs still got a big win over the Reds, scoring seven runs on nine hits. Let's hope the tabby doesn't affect them down the road.
