Bobby Lashley and TNA: What Lashley's Role Will Be

Joe Burgett Apr 22, 2009

This past Sunday at TNA's Lockdown PPV former WWE Superstar, ECW Champion, and United States Champion Bobby Lashley made a shocking appearance. TNA played to its Text message crowd a good bit before the PPV.

They said that a former World Champion would be at the PPV, and then hinted at an ECW Champion a couple of times in other pieces of news. Many thought it was recent WWE departee Tazz as he is a former ECW Champion himself.

Most know Tazz does not want to wrestle anymore, but it was in Philadelphia, where ECW became famous.

But they did surprise us with Lashley, who I think will make a nice impact. However, no one was sure of he signed with TNA long term yet.

Now news has come out that Lashley has indeed signed a "short-term" deal with TNA, where he would still be able to leave if he did not do well there and TNA would not have to hold onto him for a long time.

Other news says that he has not yet signed anything, and TNA was trying to see what the reaction would be in his appearance at Lockdown.

There was a huge pop when he came out, and it was shocking to see.

Word has it that if he did sign a deal with TNA it will not effect his Mixed Martial Arts career. As he would be able to wrestle just about four to five months a year, and he could do his MMA fights too.

Usually MMA fights are not done for a while for fighters, they have to wait a good four months sometimes to get to the fight. So he can still train for it and have something to do in the meantime.

However, there is a risk of injury. Of course in wrestling there is too, but in MMA even more so. Lashley still want to do both, with that said he has to know what the risk is. I am sure he does, but his TNA career may not be really long.

I see him doing more MMA than wrestling, but he could still make appearances. I think they would give him a couple months off from wrestling when he does MMA. Like after a fight he could take some time off.

I am sure he would not come back the week after to start wrestling, especially after a fight that both got hurt in.

Lashley knows what he is doing I'm sure. But I see his TNA career not being to long unless he wants to take time off of MMA, then go back to it later on.

Now what is he slated to do in TNA?

Well there are a few things on the table.

As many saw, when Lashley made his appearance Kurt Angle was in the ring and was smiling. This could mean he had Lashley come TNA to join the Main Event Mafia.

There is also a possibility that Angle thinks Lashley is there to join him, and then Lashley declines and joins the Front Line.

We will have to see which one TNA ends up going with, but this is a huge acquisition for TNA no doubt.
