WWE Extreme Rules 2013: How Many WrestleMania 29 Rematches Will We See?

0 of 9

WWE Extreme Rules 2013 may feature a lot of the same Superstars that were highlighted at WrestleMania 29, but how many exact rematches will we see?

Some feuds such as The Miz and Wade Barrett and Fandango and Chris Jericho have seemingly continued. These Superstars have worked with one another on Raw and or SmackDown.

However, some rematches are unlikely to happen as some Superstars only wrestle part-time.

Here I will breakdown each match from WrestleMania 29 and discuss the likeliness of each match occurring again at WWE Extreme Rules 2013.

The Miz vs. Wade Barrett for the Intercontinental Championship

1 of 9

The Miz and Wade Barrett may face one another again at Extreme Rules if WrestleMania and Raw were any indication. The two WWE Superstars have been exchanging wins, as well as the Intercontinental title.

The Miz won the title at WrestleMania 29 during the pre-show, but lost the gold the following night on Raw to Barrett. There has been a great deal of criticism by fans for having Miz hold the title for just one day.

Despite the point of burying Miz and making him appear low on the card, the feud may mean something for Extreme Rules.

Perhaps we will witness the rubber match between Miz and Wade Barrett for the Intercontinental title at WWE Extreme Rules 2013.

Will we see a rematch at Extreme Rules? Probably.

The Shield vs. Randy Orton, Sheamus and Big Show

2 of 9

There is no way fans will witness a rematch of The Shield against Randy Orton, Sheamus and Big Show. Both teams have moved on and have begun to tease their next feud.

For The Shield, it seems as though they are targeting the WWE tag team champions Team Hell No. It is uncertain if two members of The Shield would be in the match or all three.

On Raw, the Undertaker was involved as the feud was first teased. On SmackDown, Triple H was confronted by The Shield until Kane and Daniel Bryan showed up.

For Randy Orton, Sheamus and Big Show, they have begun to feud with one another instead of as a team. Randy Orton and Sheamus both want revenge on Big Show, but have had difficulty getting along themselves.

Hopefully, this leads to a triple threat match at Extreme Rules.

Will we see a rematch at Extreme Rules? Definitely not.

Mark Henry vs. Ryback

3 of 9

There is a possibility that Mark Henry and Ryback will meet again at Extreme Rules, but they would certainly not be alone. Ryback saved John Cena after an attack from Mark Henry on Raw.

However, Ryback then attacked Cena and raised the WWE title belt.

This could lead to a triple threat match for the WWE title at Extreme Rules. Ryback may have turned heel, but if WWE wants to keep him a fan favorite, adding Mark Henry would be quite logical.

Instead of having face vs. face, WWE would be adding a heel to even things out.

Then again, Henry attacked Sheamus during SmackDown so perhaps Henry will be left out of the Ryback and Cena feud.

Will we see a rematch at Extreme Rules? Only with Cena and for the WWE title.

Team Hell No vs. Dolph Ziggler and Big E Langston for WWE Tag Team Titles

4 of 9

Another WrestleMania 29 rematch we will not see at Extreme Rules is the WWE tag title match between Team Hell No and Dolph Ziggler and Big E Langston.

As discussed before, Team Hell No seems to be on the path towards defending their titles against The Shield.

As for Ziggler, he is the new World Heavyweight champion and will most likely be defending it against former champion Alberto Del Rio.

Jack Swagger could be involved in the match as well, but Del Rio is a certainty, as he is owed a rematch.

The big question mark here is Big E Langston. He had his debut at WrestleMania and lost, despite not being pinned. Then on Raw, Langston was victorious over Daniel Bryan.

Langston is clearly behind Ziggler as his bodyguard, but his in-ring direction is unclear.

Will we see a rematch at Extreme Rules? Definitely not.

Fandango vs. Chris Jericho

5 of 9

WWE fans may witness a WrestleMania rematch at Extreme Rules between Fandango and Chris Jericho.

The ballroom-dancer-turned-wrestler Fandango was victorious over Jericho at WrestleMania via small package. On both Raw and SmackDown, Jericho and Fandango have interrupted each other’s matches and delivered vicious assaults.

Fandango is a young, up-and-coming Superstar who will deliver great matches for Jericho, but may not move up on the card this way.

For Jericho, he continues to be viewed as a part-time wrestler who is putting over the young talent.

It is not the best way to use Jericho, but his past accomplishments speak for themselves. As long as Jericho doesn’t win this feud, there shouldn’t be a problem with another match between the two at Extreme Rules.

Will we see a rematch at Extreme Rules? Probably.

Alberto Del Rio vs. Jack Swagger for the World Heavyweight Championship

6 of 9

There is no way we will see another singles match for the World Heavyweight title between Alberto Del Rio and Jack Swagger at Extreme Rules.

Now that Dolph Ziggler has cashed in his Money in the Bank contract and won the title, Del Rio and Swagger will argue over the No. 1 contender’s spot.

As discussed before, Del Rio is owed a rematch, but Swagger also believes he deserves a title shot. Both Del Rio and Swagger interrupted Ziggler on SmackDown to make their case.

Whether it is a singles match against Del Rio or a triple threat including Swagger, Ziggler will most likely keep the title. The WWE Show Off had been booked and used poorly for months before cashing in.

After holding the briefcase for nine months, Ziggler deserves a lengthy title run and it will begin with a win at Extreme Rules against Del Rio and possibly Swagger too.

Will we see a rematch at Extreme Rules? Only with Ziggler as well.

The Undertaker vs. CM Punk

7 of 9

One WrestleMania 29 match we will not see at Extreme Rules is the Undertaker against CM Punk. Undertaker’s schedule is limited to only WrestleMania.

Despite the fact that he was on Raw, Taker will most likely not be seen on WWE TV for some time. He could be involved in The Shield’s feud with Team Hell No, but he doesn’t have to be.

As for Punk, it is unknown whether he will even compete at Extreme Rules. Punk may receive some time off to heal any injuries he sustained while holding the WWE title for over 400 days.

Will we see a rematch at Extreme Rules? Definitely not.

Triple H vs. Brock Lesnar

8 of 9

Triple H gained redemption against Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania, seemingly ended their feud and any chance for a rematch at WWE Extreme Rules 2013.

Triple H may not have retired, but he is still a part-time wrestler. He has only competed in big pay-per-view matches at WrestleMania and SummerSlam recently.

Despite the fact that the Shield interrupted Triple H on SmackDown, it will not lead to a feud with Ambrose, Rollins and Reigns. It was merely a way to have Team Hell No interrupt The Shield interrupting Triple H.

As for Brock Lesnar, it is unclear what his involvement at Extreme Rules will be. There is the possibility that he faces The Rock, but the Brahma Bull’s injury may cause a problem.

I recently wrote an article about who the most suitable opponent for Brock Lesnar would be at Extreme Rules.

Whether it is Punk, Rock, Undertaker or someone else, WWE fans would be entertained by a Brock Lesnar match at Extreme Rules.

Will we see a rematch at Extreme Rules? Definitely not.

John Cena vs. The Rock

9 of 9

Triple H was not the only Superstar to gain redemption at WrestleMania 29. John Cena also did when he defeated The Rock for the WWE title.

Could we see Cena-Rock III at Extreme Rules?

    Yes, said no one ever.

As discussed earlier, John Cena is seemingly entering a feud with Ryback and possibly Mark Henry as well.

The Rock may be the No. 1 contender for the WWE title, but there’s no reason for another match against Cena.

With the Rock’s part-time schedule, his feud with Cena wasn’t built up enough for WrestleMania 29. So it would certainly not get enough build again to Extreme Rules.

There is the possibility that The Rock faces Brock Lesnar at Extreme Rules, but again his injury will dictate if The Rock can compete.

Will we see a rematch at Extreme Rules? Definitely not.
