Colby Cameron: Video Highlights for Former Louisiana Tech QB

Jamal CollierJun 6, 2018

Louisiana Tech quarterback Colby Cameron completed 359 of 522 passes (68.8 percent) for 4,147 yards, 31 touchdowns and five interceptions as a senior. He also rushed for 177 yards on 61 carries, converting four of those into touchdowns.

Leading an offense that scored a massive 53 points per game, Cameron tossed at least three TDs in seven separate games in 2012, including a barn-burner with Texas A&M. He chucked a career-high five scores in that game on top of 450 yards. But Louisiana Tech fell by a count of 59-57.

In his first 10 games, Cameron avoided throwing a single pick. His highs were more frequent than his lows, and we’ll explore the former category here as he embarks on his NFL career.

1st-Quarter Bomb vs. Rice

1 of 8

Wide receiver Quinton Patton gets behind the defense on this play, a 65-yard connection from Colby Cameron.

After the play-action fake, Cameron lofts the rock over the defense, where Patton catches it in stride and takes it to the house.

The touchdown put Louisiana Tech up 7-0 in the first quarter.

3rd-Quarter TD Strike vs. Rice

2 of 8

With his team up 35-17 in the third quarter, Colby Cameron threw a strike through three defenders to Quinton Patton for Patton's second score of the game.

It was Cameron's fourth and final TD of the contest. Rice never matched the 42 points that Louisiana Tech had at the time, and Louisiana Tech's final two end-zone visits were of the rushing variety.

The final was 56-37.

Flea-Flicker vs. Illinois

3 of 8

Flea-flickers don't happen too often in the NFL, and for good reason: Guys are faster than they are in college. That play can be disastrous for an offense.

Louisiana Tech pulled it off against Illinois, though.

Colby Cameron took the pitch around his own 45-yard line, loaded up and chucked one to Quinton Patton that descended inside the 10.

It wasn't a touchdown here and wouldn't have been in the pros, either. The defender would've downed the receiver at the five. But a successful professional replication of this would be a momentum-shifting play.

Louisiana Tech scored a touchdown two plays later.

Sideline Strike vs. Illinois

4 of 8

There's extraordinarily little room for mistakes in the red zone.

Up 14-7 against Illinois with the first quarter drawing to a close, Colby Cameron dropped back from the 22. It was third down, but the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs would score their third TD of the game before attacking the opposite end zone with a quarter switch.

Cameron extended his team's drive by squeezing the football between the cornerback, who was playing the receiver rather than the ball, and the oncoming safety. He dropped the ball in near the sideline behind the corner's back.

The following play was a five-yard rushing score.

Deep Ball vs. Illinois

5 of 8

Quinton Patton just got behind a defense again.

Colby Cameron found his No. 1 receiver for a 78-yard bomb, Louisiana Tech's fourth touchdown in what would be a seven-TD onslaught against Illinois.

Cameron finished this game with his best attempt-to-touchdown ratio (5.5 tosses per score), and Louisiana Tech emerged victorious, 52-24.

Fade vs. Texas A&M

6 of 8

Colby Cameron showed off a little touch with this fade toss off a red-zone play-action fake. He hit the usual suspect, Quinton Patton, in the back of the end zone to get his team on the board.

Louisiana Tech trailed 27-7 after the score, but it would get more interesting.

Fade vs. Texas A&M, Part 2

7 of 8

Texas A&M had already dropped 39 on Louisiana Tech before the Bulldogs could cross the 20-point barrier.

But Colby Cameron and Quinton Patton had the fade route connection down.

For both players' second touchdown of the day, Cameron dropped the ball in where only Patton could get to it. That re-established the game as a two-score contest with plenty of time to go in the third quarter.

Clutch TD vs. Texas A&M

8 of 8

There's really only one option when you're down eight with less than a minute to go: score the TD and cash in the two-point conversion.

Each is independently difficult, so it's understandably impressive that Colby Cameron was able to get the football to Ray Holley across the middle for a 13-yard touchdown. Louisiana Tech was down 59-57 after the score and would eventually lose the game by the same count after failing the ensuing conversion attempt.

But you can't say the six-point play wasn't clutch simply because the two-pointer didn't work out.
