New NBA Free-Throw Rule Explained

Final Four Picks

Arman LewisApr 3, 2008

Well folks after a very exciting NCAA basketball season we have come down to the supposed best four teams in the nation: UCLA, Memphis, North Carolina, and Kansas.

This is already history in the making because this is the first time ever that all four No. 1 seeds have made it to the final four so this coming weekend promises to live up to its title and will show you why these teams are in the final four.

In matchup No. 1 we have the UCLA Bruins versus the Memphis Tigers. For UCLA this is their third straight Final Four and I do believe that the third time is the charm. Memphis will not go down without a fight though, but this is where the experience of UCLA will overpower an overrated Memphis team.

Their bigs (Dozier and Dorsey) cannot compare to Kevin Love and Luc Mbah a Moute, their guards Douglas-Roberts and Rose are great but Westbrook and Collison are greater, and their free-throw shooting is much worse. Though the Tigers did go 20 for 23 against Texas, they still are shooting only 55% from the line in the tournament. That is not what championship caliber teams are made of. My pick is UCLA.

In matchup No. 2 we have the North Carolina Tar Heels versus the Kansas Jayhawks. Coachย Roy Williams is back in the Final Four Again just three years after winning a national championship and he is looking for his second with theย Tar Heels in just eight seasons. This should also turn out to be a very interesting match-up because both teams have very deep benches.

The match-ups to look out for are the Kansas big men versus Tyler Hansbrough and the Kansas guards versus Lawson, Ellington, and Ginyard. If Dorrell Arthur, Darnell Jackson, and Sasha Khan canย put the clamps on Hansbrough, which no one has done,ย and force the rest of UNC to score, then they can punch their ticket to theย championship game for the first time since 2003.

If they (the Jayhawks) cannot stop the Tar Heelsย and let Lawson, Ellington and Hansbroughย run them ragged then theyย can kiss their championship hopes goodbye. My pick here is UNC.ย ย ย
