WWE: Why It's Crap and Why I Still Watch It

ryan underwoodApr 21, 2009

This is my first article here..

I have been following professional wrestling for a long time. I remember as a kid, watching it for the first time, the awe at which these big guys were tossing each other. Of course, I thought it was real—oh well.

Anway, the period of wrestling that I really enjoyed was the attitude era. There were crazy storylines, but it was great. And of course the superstar, Steve Austin and The Rock—there were some great storylines, one of the best being Austin and Bret Hart.

Man, what a great feud. The culmination of the feud at Wrestlemania where even though Austin lost, he actually won. That was the peak of wrestling, where even though you knew it was fake, it transcended into reality. You believed in his character, and that he will never give up..

But nowadays I just keep thinking perhaps the best days are over. The problem is now WWE is A SHOW NOT FOR FANS, BUT FOR ONE PERSON ONLY—VINCE MCMAHON.

I have seen his interviews and he is perhaps the biggest ego-maniac walking. To him the show is about "wrestlers", mainly Triple H, who I think is a great mid-carder. It's about John Cena, or Randy "Boring" Orton.

There are some great talents in WWE. Shelton Benjamin to name one, who I think is the best athelete in all of wrestling. Before people object, just watch him wrestling.

It's about the movement in the ring, or a heel cm punk who I think can be as great as Austin. He's got the looks, the mic skills and best of all, a natural screen character. And the other Brock Lesnar—Jack Swagger, who I think is extremely talented.

One of the good things about WWE is that they work in cycles. There is the boring period, and than the exciting period.

I think the Triple H and Randy Orton is the boring period, now I hope perhaps in vain is the exciting period, where CM Punk, Jack Swagger is the new future of wrestling.
