Yellow Jackets-Bulldogs: The "Big A" vs. the "Lil A"

Nic PadgettApr 20, 2009

Through the history of Athens, Ga., and Atlanta, the belligerent battles between the two cities have sprawled into many aspects of competition, one of them being college football.

The rivalry between the Georgia Bulldogs and the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets has been in effect for more than 100 years! "The clean, old fashioned hate" first met in 1883. UGA has tied Georgia Tech five times, won 59 games, and lost 39 games.

The questions that ponder the minds of many, which most Athenians ponder:

What is going to happen in 2009?

Who is going to win the battle of the "A's?"

Overall, who will win?

The statistics of each team will strike a sterling prediction in the minds of those who ask such questions. First, let's consider the Red and Black Georgia Bulldogs.

I think the schedule this year is just as tough as last season's, even though UGA swaps Alabama for Arkansas. I think UGA goes 11-1, worst case 9-3 if the injury bug hits the Bulldogs again.

It seems like every year the same things are said about how any SEC team has a chance to beat us the next year. In a lot of ways that is true, but you don't validate yourself with 10-win seasons by losing to teams that are perpetually worse than you.

Therefore I am going to be a little more optimistic (and perhaps realistic) in my predictions for 2009. Keep in mind this assumes a healthy unit and improved play from the defensive end position.

What about Georgia Tech? Well, what about them? You comment on them and tell me what you think, and I will voice my opinion on the matter in comments.
