4 Underrated NHL Players to Watch for the Rest of the Season

Anthony FuscoJun 8, 2018

Today's NHL is filled with a bevy of different players.

There are the superstars such as Sidney Crosby, Steven Stamkos and Evgeni Malkin who wow fans with their amazing talent.

Then there are the veterans who know the game inside and out. Players like Martin Brodeur, Teemu Selanne and Jaromir Jagr.

After that, there is basically everything in between. The fighters, the grinders and the underrated players.

It amazes me that some of the men in the following slides are underrated. They block shots, score big goals and do all manner of things to help their teams succeed.

Here are four underrated men to keep an eye on the rest of the season.

Brad Marchand

1 of 4

Many people think of Brad Marchand as little more than a pest on the ice.

The reality is that he is much more than that.

Marchand plays the game on the edge and this compliments his offensive instincts incredibly well.

The feisty winger has thrived this season and has put up 14 goals and 16 assists for an even 30 points. He's also currently a plus-22.

Marchand has unique skills that allow him to get his opponents off balance and burn them just as fast.

Jiri Tlusty

2 of 4

Jiri Tlusty recently ended his small slump by breaking out for his first NHL hat trick against the Capitals.

Tlusty has quietly had an excellent season for the Carolina Hurricanes. The Czech winger has accumulated 17 goals and nine assists for 26 points.

He also stands at plus-14 so far.

Tlusty came into the year riding some momentum from a career best 36 points in 2011-2012 and has so far continued to stay hot and put up solid numbers.

Derek Stepan

3 of 4

Derek Stepan has been quietly starring for the New York Rangers in the Big Apple this season.

The former 2008 51st-overall pick has been playing tremendous hockey this year. He's scored 12 goals and put up 16 assists for 28 points.

He is also a plus player with his plus- being 16.

Because of his outstanding play, Stepan is now centering a line between Rick Nash and captain Ryan Callahan.

Keep a sharp eye out for him as the Rangers push for a playoff spot.

Jakub Voracek

4 of 4

Jakub Voracek has been a beast in this shortened season.

The Czech winger has put up great numbers with 16 goals and 22 assists for a grand total of 38 points.

Voracek currently sits 12th in scoring this year and is ahead of names like Alex Ovechkin, Claude Giroux and Pavel Datsyuk.

Voracek is leading the Flyers this season, and if they make the playoffs it will be in large part to his torrent scoring pace.
