Virginia Tech Sporting Events: My Top Five
As my inaugural article, I decided the best way to start it off was by listing the top games I went to while I was at Virginia Tech:
5) UNC basketball team, Jan 13, 2007—I consider this one of the top games I've been to just because it was a win over the No. 1 team in the nation, UNC, that almost didn't happen if Tech hadn't held on. Not that I'm a fan of losing by more than 20 point leads, but a win is a win, and this was a classic in B'Burg.
4) Texas A&M football team, Sept. 18, 2003—To sum it up: Tropical Storm Isabel and Thursday Night Football in Blacksburg...enough said.
3) Clemson football team, Oct. 26, 2007—The team went in ranked low in a Thursday night game. It was one that the "Hokies" needed after loosing to BC and GT in their previous two ACC conference games. As always, the atmosphere at Lane was electric and the crowd willed the defense to an upset victory of the No. 10 Clemson Tigers.
2) Duke basketball team, Feb. 17, 2005—This was the breakout game for Tech basketball. It felt like a football game, not a basketball game, based on how loud the crowd was that night. The crowd was loud the entire game and the only time it wasn't, was when Redick missed a three-pointer in the last seconds. You definitely could hear a pin drop in Cassell at that moment. The crowd erupted and stormed the court at the end. I can say I was so exhausted from jumping up and down, that I was sore the entire next day.
1) Miami football team, Nov. 1, 2003—My first big sporting moment at Lane Stadium: Tech was coming off after an upset in Morgantown by WVU, and needed to rebound. Again, the crowd was so electric, that no one could hear a thing the entire game. Once "Enter Sandman" started, it was over for the 'Canes. It also didn't help to drop balls when no one's covering you while in the end zone. It was a big victory and the most memorable game during my time at Tech.
